Augur's End and Jerborg

Augur's End, once known as Jerborg, is a city under the sovereign rule of the Augurs. It has a storied history of conflict, largely with the folk of Mot D'nir and slavery. Under the name Jerborg, it was no more than a mining colony under the shadow of Eldurgrund. In their greed, Eldurgrund ignored the possibility of working with the natives as equals and ordered Jerborg to set forth with their excavations under the border mountains. Centuries later, when Eldurgrund was taken under the rule of Saint's Maar and joined the Augury, they lost jurisdiction over Jerborg. In the coming years, the first official duke over Jerborg was cruel and had a lust for war, wishing to expand deeper into the marsh. He spearheaded many of the wars with the natives and disrespected their god, locking the Quai behind stone walls within the city and restricting access.   Eventually, a young man named Ongar Stone-Grower sat at the helm of a rebellion, seeking to liberate his people during a time of martial law. This overthrow was a smashing success, and Ongar was the first (and only) archduke to be voted into leadership by his people. When Ongar and his council unveiled the cruelty of his predecessor, the Augury absolved him of his criminal status and allowed him to rule the city. With a new image and vision, Ongar renamed the city "Augur's End," as he would never seek to step foot in the marsh under the empire's name ever again.   During The Silence, Arniel Kane took the head of the guard, Caius Warrick, a prisoner for several months. In Warrick's absence, Nostula Turases would be brought in to finish the job. While the position was originally intended for Efan Turases, the young warrior and his company were missing for several weeks, requiring improvisation. Ongar had hoped Nostula would have the same outlook as his nephew, but this was not the case. Augur's End had grown accustomed to many freedoms that the rest of the empire lacked, including the Turases home of Shellbay. Nostula put the city under martial law during the Silence and would rule with a paranoid hand until the crisis was over. With his position of power, he managed to get his brother on the throne of the Goldwalk for a limited time. The changes to Augur's End worried Ongar, but he had very little in the way of support. All of the guards who disliked Ongar saw their way to a settlement known as Wyrmwood, leaving Ongar at Nostula's behest.   Following The Silence, the city's name was changed to Newmot, and it has remained the same ever since (ca. 1947 NG). Efan Turases would succeed Ongar as Archduke of the Marsh, following Stone-Grower's execution.
