Illonuit
City of Senses
Illonuit's colloquial name is the City of Senses. Sound travels far in the void, and if you're within at least five astronomical units, or 750 million kilometres, you will hear the booming echoes and bright lights of this city.
The people of Illonuit love the euphoria that comes with endless partying, of which they only do in times of literal darkness which happens to be constantly. While Illonuit's council is busy travelling through the void, looking for other settlements to destroy, the commoners are busy partying until they inevitable pass out from sensory overloads.
How long has this song been playing on repeat?
Five days.
Do they realise?
Nope.
Should we help them?
Nope.
Siren Songs
Often known as the Sirens of the Void, Illones create the most unusual but entrancing music. Nobody is quite sure where this music is created, how, or why. The music seems to hold capture the minds of those who listen, which is why no other civilisation gets close to these people, out of fear for being sucked into their song.
For an unexplained reason, the Illonuit council are completely immune to the trance the music puts people in, along with the patrol guards. In fact, the council and guards find the civilians amusing, as they dance until their legs break, and sing until they cannot make another noise.
Parasite
One wouldn't really think of a settlement as a parasite, but that's exactly what Illonuit is. The hypnotic rhythms of the music played slowly consumes the host moth's brain, until it is no longer functional and cannot fly through space.
When a host moth starts to die or reach a dormant state, the music will temporarily stop until they can find a new host moth, which will inevitable succumb to the deadly songs of the city.
I really think we should help them soon. That one's been dancing for three days, his legs are bleeding and he's barely standing anymore.
Boss says no. I want to help to, but our hands our tied.
This is amazing and far more spooky than I expected going into it -- great work! :D
Thank you so much! It's not something I'd usually write, glad you enjoyed it!
