The Primordial War

During the Age of Gods, Lanath (like all other worlds) floated on the Astral Sea. As legend tells it, the Primordial Elder Gods grew envious of Lanath. Their hunger grew so great that they put aside their own bickering and descended to devour Lanath.
The Gods of Lanath rose in defence of their land, and a great war was joined. The Gods and their faithful servant, the Daeva, against the Primordials, their monstrous pet dragons, and their demonic armies.
The destructive power of the Primordials was incredible, taxing the Gods to their limits. Early in the conflict, one of the human empires - the Netheril betrayed the Gods and allied with the Primordials.
Bolstered by this additional force, the Primordial's army swept across the lands of the mortal races, killing indiscriminately. The slaughter was horrific, and most of the mortal races were nearly wiped out in under a year. Desperate to protect their people, the Gods used their combined magic to cause the cataclysm known as The Sundering.
With most of the demonic army drowned, and the landscape of Lanath forever changed, the Gods spoke. Selune foresaw their inevitable defeat and the destruction of Lanath. Seeking council with Silvanus, the two concocted a plan. Together they created new creatures, made of the very materials of Lanath and formed in the likeness of the Primordial's terrible dragons. The Gods imbued these creatures with most of their power, and attempted to channel the power of Lanath itself into them as well. This succeeded beyond their wildest dreams, and a new race of metallic dragons were created, bound to Lanath as it's protectors. Together the Gods, the remaining Daeva and the Metallic Dragons managed to drive the Primordials from Lanath.
