Excellent. So you read through the book Mother Redwald gave you. You find a tale of an ancient sect of mystic warriors, the Bruxha, formed during the Dark Age following the Sundering. These warriors took it upon themselves to protected the survivors they found. The cataclysm had not only effectively destroyed civilisation and killed millions of innocents, but it had also woken long dormant monstrosities and aberrations from legend, who now sought to prey on the survivors. Outmatched by the creatures now stalking the darkness, the Bruxha used arcane magical rituals and strange alchemical sciences to strengthen themselves, using the very essence of the creatures they hunted. This vastly increased their strength and fortitude, far beyond that of normal humans and elves, and enabled them to go toe to toe with their prey. Although these powers had a cost, each mutation stripping them of more of their humanity. Over time, this mystical self-modification proved their undoing. Some members became so transformed that they lost themselves entirely and became feral creatures hunted by their own brethren. Others were driven out by the mortal survivors who feared what they were becoming, and died alone in the wilderness. The rest are believed to have so warped their own physiology that they became infertile. Over time, the Bruxha slipped into legend.
