Military Court
Located at the center of the primary Defenders base, the Military Court is where Defenders and violators of Martial Law are prosecuted. Additionally, the judges also evaluate requests for information above people's security clearance, and the release of information for formal inquiries. To best fit with their tasks, there are three ranks of judges, namely Low Judges for simple cases, Middle Judges for significant violations, and High Judges for armed incidents and high treason cases.
The judges are all active or retired officers. While on the job, they all have Security Clearance 3, even if normally they have a higher clearance. This means that they do not have additional information available compared to other judges. Information above Security Clearance 3 requires agreement of a panel of three Middle Judges.
A Defender suspected of committing a crime will nearly always be judged by the Military Court, unless the Court decides it better for public morale that a Civic Court handles the trial. Civilians only go for the military court for directly violating Martial Law. For example, defiers of Black Lung security masures are prosecuted by civic courts.
Punishments tend to be lenient, usually being fines, community service, and demotions. Serious offenders may go to jail for weeks to years, while undergoing mental evaluations and re-education. The death penalty can only be given to Defenders convicted of high treason, and is normally only given for lethal offenses. This is why none of the Pillagers responsible for the Fallen Wall Incident were given the death penalty, since fatalities were prevented.
