Lancer: Orion-Cygnus Arm
The current year in the game is 5016u, or, 5,016 years after the foundation of Union, the central organizing body of humanity, came to power on Earth — now called “Cradle.” Roughly 6,000 years prior to Union’s foundation, Humanity on Cradle had suffered an ecological and societal collapse. Old Humanity was, in a word, us; Lancer’s setting occurs about 14,000 years in the future from today.
Humanity in Lancer is vast, polyglot, multicultural, and myriad in appearance, expression, gender, and concern. Life, on average, is good: on Core worlds — designated by development level — life is post-capital and essentially post-scarcity, as near a utopia one could imagine. All other worlds vary on a spectrum from Core to lonely colonial outpost, and life mirrors its circumstance. The galaxy is not in a Golden Age; only some worlds are. It is Union’s project to encourage, effect, and — in some cases — intervene to make it so.
How Union goes about this mission is not yet decided, and the point of much conflict internal and external; in this tense space is often where Lancer’s players make their stories.
