Solstice Festival

History

It has been common practice to celebrate the solstices for as long as people can remember, as both are important markers of the passing of time.

Execution

Celebrating a solstice is a four day affair. Two days before to celebrate the two seasons that have been and two days after the solstice to celebrate the seasons that will be.

Along side this are events that can be put on one or multiple days, such as theatre and music, although they are also usually themed.

Spring

Spring is supposed to be a time where plants come to bloom and animals birth offspring. As such importance is put on colour and animals.

Summer

Summer brings green and warm sunlight. Emphasis is on physical activities, such as sport, tournaments and dancing.

Autumn

The time of harvests and falling leaves. Colours now go to towards yellow, orange and red, and there is plenty of food of all kinds.

Winter

The cold times. Things are calmer and there is a focus on craftmanship, as well as being with friends and family.

Participants

As the main host of the festival the leader of Erion has the biggest part. Currently this is Hilde von Ileni.

Then there are a number of entertainers present, these range from musicians to dancers and fire-eaters.

Finally the biggest part is held by the population of the city and those who travel from the surrounding villages. Because there are so many people there are multiple areas outside of the city devoted to hold tents and other temporary housing.
