Immortal Dianthus

The Immortal Dianthus, aka Forever William, is a herbaceous perennial that grows in the tallest mountains of Landrithel. Despite its name, the Immortal Dianthus does not actually grow forever, it has on average a 70-year lifespan in the wild, this can be lengthened significantly with proper care and nurture. Currently, the longest living Immortal Dianthus is 250 years old, and is being kept by the Sword Bearing faction. 
Many Immortal Dianthus have a tie to the natural magic of the world that they absorb through their roots. This leads to them having unusual properties of vitality and growth. If anyone studying a Craft were to absorb this energy into their body, they would be filled with same vitality.
They are highly coveted by many Lords looking to advance their craft, however due to the dangerous nature of their habitat, very few can actually obtain this material for this purpose. Usually, they are found by random chance and make quite an impact at whatever market they enter. They are particularly important to alchemists who would use them in the production of high-level boluses.

Genetics and Reproduction

The Immortal Dianthus reproduces as most flowers do, using a pollinator. The reason for their sparsity however is due to their specificity of pollination. They use the rock wasp to spread their pollen, the rock wasp only builds their hives on tall mountains and will travel great distances to collect enough pollen for nectar in which to make their honey.

Growth Rate & Stages

The Immortal Dianthus grows relatively quickly and reaches maturity after its first two years of growth. After this period of growth, it will plateau at roughly 1/4 inch a year. It is not known if there is a limit to this growth.

Ecology and Habitats

The Immortal Dianthus prefers a rocky and dry habitat to make its home. It also prefers to have a higher altitude so that it can be close to its pollinators of choice. These two aspects together makes tall mountain peaks its ideal growing spot.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

The Sword Bearing faction has a ritual where they will gift the largest blooms of the Immortal Dianthus to the strongest members of its latest generation. This magic ritual helps to strengthen the Sword Bearing members by assisting with the practice of their Craft. Aside from this, Immortal Dianthus are most often used in the production of boluses that can increase a Lord's affinity with their craft. They are unusually effective for anyone that has a natural or plant-based Craft but has effectiveness with any Craft. Due to the sparsity of the Immortal Dianthus whenever one of these boluses hits the market, it causes a huge stir.
