Monster Cores

Monster Cores are hardened pieces of a monstrous creature's vital energy and lifeforce. A monster can have multiple cores within their body, but this is a rare occurrence and only happens in monsters that are of suitable strength. Usually, they are located in the brain or heart of a monster but are not always found in those two locations, researchers have not found a strong tie for where the cores develop and a certain species of monster. It is believed that monster cores are developed from a certain gel found within a monster's body that seems to flow along its own track separate from the blood stream.   Monster Cores act as a main driving force for two major functions in Landrithel. They are first and foremost used as a universal currency on this continent because of their inherent value to every citizen. The second function they are used for is the main cause for this value. They are used to advance the Craft of a Lord and can act as the resources needed to progress to higher levels and have a minor role in the reinforcement of items.   There is a ranking system to compare the relative power of Monster cores to the benefit they provide and the amount of gold they are worth in the Pathfinder RPG:
F-rank cores - Amber = 1 gold
D-rank cores - Quartz = 10 gold
C-rank cores - Topaz = 100 gold
B-rank cores - Spinel = 1,000 gold
A-rank cores - Ruby = 10,000 gold
S-rank cores - Diamond = 100,000-??? gold   F-rank through B-rank cores are relatively common and can be found in most any mid-sized or larger cities. A-rank monster cores are rare enough that they can only be found in large cities that have a population of at least 1,000. S-rank cores are so rare and valuable that they are almost always used by whoever finds them. If they were put onto the market, there is a high chance that whoever sold it would be offered a massive amount of wealth that could rival small kingdoms.
