19th Century Pascuit-Addian War

War

Written by Fulma02

Introduction

The 19th Century Adda-Pascuit war, also known as the Great Plateau War, was a major military conflict that started from the year 1800 ADE to 1810 ADE with the capitulation of Adda as well as its colonies.

Background

Causes

The Federation of Pascuit found itself mired in a deep-rooted and enduring sense of envy when it came to the remarkable economic and social achievements witnessed by their neighboring nation of Adda. The Pascuits, blessed with a vast expanse of territory, held immense potential for the development of their own economy. However, this potential remained largely untapped due to the persistent political instability that plagued the government of the federation. It was this unfortunate instability that proved to be the greatest impediment to the growth and progress of the Pascuit economy. The consequences of this disadvantageous situation were not merely confined to the realm of economic frustration; they permeated through the very fabric of Pascuit society. The Federation's population, faced with the unfulfilled promise of prosperity that their abundant resources held, experienced a profound sense of humiliation and disenchantment. This pervasive feeling of being left behind and overlooked, especially in comparison to the neighboring Addians who flourished in their economic pursuits, posed a grave threat to the overall sense of nationalism that had long defined the country.   Beyond envy, the Pascuitans harbored an unfathomable grudge against the Addians, rooted deeply in the annals of history, specifically the fateful year of 1785 ADE when the Addians surreptitiously seized control over the Southern Aureum region in a manner deemed flagrantly illegal. The occupation, like a venomous serpent sinking its fangs into the heart of Pascuitan identity, was perceived as an egregious and deliberate act, a repulsive act akin to a spiteful spit directed squarely in the faces of the Pascuitans. It was an act that resonated far beyond the immediate consequences of territorial acquisition, unraveling the delicate fabric of their shared history, and sowing the seeds of animosity that persisted through generations.

Preparations

In the year 1798 ADE, 2 years before the start of the conflict, a significant number of propaganda papers emerged with the explicit purpose of fostering animosity and division between the respective peoples of the Pascuitans and Addians. These propagandistic publications, cunningly crafted with the intention of manipulating public opinion, extended their reach beyond the borders of Pascuit and Adda, permeating even the far-flung regions of the Federation, particularly Makaria and Occidentia. The systematic dissemination of propaganda materials aimed to engender hostility and grow distrust between the citizens of Pascuit and Adda. By employing various persuasive techniques, such as embellished narratives, biased accounts, and inflammatory language, these papers sought to vilify one another's cultures, traditions, and historical narratives. Subtly crafted narratives were skillfully employed to generate a distorted understanding of the opposing nation, distorting facts and exacerbating preexisting tensions.

History

War begins

On the historic morning of June in the year 1800 ADE, the region found itself engulfed in conflict, as the Addian occupants faced an unprecedented assault. Their peace was abruptly shattered by the arrival of a combined army, comprising no less than 15,000 federation soldiers hailing from the esteemed ranks of the Aureums. This formidable force, armed with the latest advancements in artillery, descended upon Adda with a fervor unmatched. Standing resolute in defense of their beloved homeland, the Addian border guards, numbering between 5,000 and 6,000 men, awaited the invaders. The clash that ensued would leave an indelible mark on the history of the conflict. The initial engagement between the adversaries witnessed a catastrophic exchange, resulting in significant losses on both sides. Lives were tragically lost, leaving a somber aura that permeated the battlefield.   However, fate had not yet fully cast its judgment upon the Aureums. With each passing day, a glimmer of hope appeared on the horizon, embodied in the form of Merisotan reinforcements. These Merisotans, renowned for their unwavering loyalty and resolve, rallied alongside the Aureum troops, effectively turning the tide of battle. For an entire week, the cacophony of war continued, as each faction relentlessly vied for control over the contested territory. Ultimately, the Aureum and Merisotan forces emerged triumphant, their numeric advantage prevailing over the Addian border guards. The significance of this decisive victory would reverberate throughout the rest of the war, altering the course of the conflict for years to come.

Zekabrian front

Advancing to the year 1801, a significant chapter in the war, merely a year after the inaugural shots were fired. It was during this tumultuous time that the troops amassed by the Zekabrians, embarked upon a daring campaign to seize control of the coveted northern coastline of Adda. Their concerted efforts yielded resounding success, as they deftly maneuvered and pushed back the stationed Addian army, caught unprepared for the audacity of the assault. The dawn of that momentous day bore witness to the arrival of the Merisotan Army, as they stealthily infiltrated the northern region under the cover of early morning shadows. The unexpected incursion sent shockwaves through the Addian ranks, their positions beset by a relentless bombardment of artillery fire, plunging them into disarray and chaos. Their morale was shattered, as the relentless onslaught shook their confidence to the core. The constant barrage of shells and the ensuing psychological torment inflicted upon the besieged Addian soldiers left an indelible mark on their minds.   In stark contrast, the Zekabrian forces entered the fray with an air of assuredness, encountering little resistance in their march toward victory. The retreat of the Addian Army to the nearby city of Geneda was not only a testament to the overwhelming might of the invading forces but also a strategic decision prompted by the pressing need for regrouping and fortification. The consequential evacuation of Geneda highlighted the dire straits in which the Addian defenders found themselves, as they were compelled to cede their territorial positions under duress.

Adda's breakthrough

A few months after the Zekabrian forces began their operations, a cavalry division originating from Adda embarked on a clandestine mission, breaching the seemingly impregnable Merisotan border defenses near the capital of Merisota, Villa de Merisotè. Their audacious infiltration inflicted widespread devastation upon numerous unsuspecting Merisotan military and civilian settlements, reducing them to smoldering ruins. While the overall impact of these attacks may not have significantly altered the Addian war effort, the humiliation reverberated far beyond the material destruction. The audacity displayed by the Addian cavalry dealt a profound blow to the Merisotan Army, exposing their inability to anticipate and effectively counter such unexpected assaults. This unforeseen breach constituted a grave humiliation, tarnishing the reputation of the Merisotan military.   A flurry of conjecture and speculation soon ensued, as scholars, historians, and military strategists sought to unravel the enigma surrounding this audacious infiltration. Many postulated that the events transpired due to a lapse in alertness on the part of the Merisotan border defenses. It was believed that the men stationed at the borders, perhaps complacent in their routine duties, were caught off guard, providing an inadvertent opportunity for the Addian cavalry division to exploit.

Battle and Siege of Ville de Merisote

In the wake of the turmoil that engulfed the region, chaos reigned supreme, providing a strategic opening that the Addian military quickly exploited. Seizing the opportune moment, they launched a meticulously planned operation aimed at securing their hold over this beleaguered territory. A staggering force of 55,000 soldiers, their ranks bolstered by the formidable presence of several well-trained cavalry divisions, descended upon the region with unwavering determination. The gravity of the situation was not lost upon the Merisotan forces. Faced with the looming specter of the Addians inching closer to their capital, they decided to allocate all available nearby divisions to the area, recognizing the dire need to halt the encroaching Addians.   As the forces of these two factions converged upon the contested terrain, the stage was set for a clash that would resonate throughout the war. The impending battles, characterized by their prolonged duration and unrelenting brutality, were destined to etch their mark in history as one of the deadliest encounters of the entire war. Both sides bore an unwavering resolve, each driven by a desire to secure victory and assert their dominance over this crucial piece of land. The Addians, fueled by their newfound advantage and emboldened by their initial incursion, were determined to consolidate their control and expand their territorial gains. Conversely, the Merisotans, aware of the imminent threat to their capital and the dire consequences that loomed should the Addians gain a foothold, fought with a fervor that defied the bounds of mortal limitations.   During the initial stages of the conflict, the battlefield primarily encompassed the outskirts of the capital, where the Addian forces relentlessly pressed forward, gradually gaining ground against the defending Merisotan troops day by day. As the conflict intensified, the combatants endured the harrowing effects, witnessing the devastating toll it took on both sides. The Addian forces, displaying unwavering determination, displayed their superior strategy and strength as they steadily advanced, forcing the Merisotan defenders to retreat further into the heart of their own territory.   Weeks turned into a month, and after enduring intense battles and mounting casualties, the Addian forces made a pivotal decision. Recognizing the strategic importance of capturing the capital, they initiated a comprehensive siege, aiming to tighten their grip around the city and choke the life out of its defenses. However, the Addian forces' hopes of a swift victory through the siege were short-lived. As the siege endured, the Merisotan defenders, battered but not broken, received a lifeline. Reinforcements from other fronts, responding to the desperate plea for aid, arrived just in time to bolster the depleted Merisotan ranks.   With the arrival of reinforcements, the tide of battle slowly began to shift. The Merisotan defenders, their spirits rekindled by the newfound strength, unleashed a fierce counteroffensive against the besieging Addian forces. As the days turned into weeks, the momentum swung definitively in favor of the Merisotan defenders. The Addian forces, now facing relentless pressure from multiple fronts, found themselves outmatched and outmaneuvered. Slowly but surely, the tide of battle irrevocably turned, as the Addian forces were gradually forced to retreat from the region they had fiercely fought to conquer.

The Aureapolis front

In just a few short months following the unsuccessful offensive launched by the Addians targeting the Merisotan capital, a significant shift in the military landscape took place as the Merisotan armed forces swiftly mobilized multiple infantry and cavalry divisions in the strategically vital region of Aureapolis. With a single goal in mind, the combined Merisotan force comprised an impressive contingent of 35,000 soldiers, all placed under the command of General Phillip N. Arceo, a commander renowned for his tactical brilliance and unwavering dedication to a cause.   With the stage set and the forces assembled, the Merisotan offensive commenced. Like a tidal wave crashing upon the shore, the invading Merisotan force pushed forward, smashing through the Addian defensive lines swiftly. The initial encounter revealed a shocking disparity between the opposing sides, as the Addian forces found themselves ill-prepared to counter the Merisotan invasion. The Addians, caught off guard by the unexpected location of the Merisotan assault, were left bewildered and disoriented. Their anticipation of an offensive in the region of Muz, supported by the contentious history between Adda and Merisota regarding this particular territory, had lulled them into a false sense of security. Little did they know that the Merisotan military had brilliantly executed diverted their attention away from their true target.

The Hilopolis invasion

In the year 1809 ADE, a remarkable and noteworthy advancement has been achieved by the federation forces, bolstering the security of the flanks in the vicinity of the strategically pivotal city of Hilopolis. This recent military operation has successfully pushed back the Addian defense forces, forcing them to retreat closer to the city's borders. The Addians, unfortunately, experienced a severe blow during this significant advance, as they incurred substantial losses, particularly in the form of multiple infantry divisions that were dispatched to defend the area.   The consequences of this triumph extend far beyond mere territorial gains. The secure flanks near Hilopolis serve as a safeguard, shielding the city from potential Addian offensives and ensuring its uninterrupted functionality. Moreover, this successful military operation delivers a resounding message to the Addians, firmly establishing the federation forces as a formidable adversary, capable of inflicting substantial damage and overcoming strong defensive positions.

Capitulation

In the year 1810, the Addians faced mounting challenges on multiple fronts, their capitulation loomed ever closer, casting a shadow of inevitability over their once-mighty empire. The cracks in their foundation deepened, fueled by the dual forces of military defeat and internal upheaval. The pillars of Addian authority trembled under the weight of a populace no longer willing to submit to a faltering power. In the midst of this turmoil, the stage was set for a profound realignment of power dynamics. The Addians, long regarded as the dominant force in the region, now found themselves teetering on the precipice of irrelevance. The echoes of their waning influence were felt not only by their enemies but also by the international community, as neighboring nations and global powers closely monitored the shifting tides.   In the end, it was a convergence of factors—a strategic breakthrough, devastating losses, internal unrest, and the erosion of legitimacy—that coalesced to precipitate the Addian capitulation. The victory would soon be claimed by the resolute Merisotan forces, while the remnants of the once-mighty Addian empire grappled with the bitter reality of their fading dominance. Thus, the year 1810 ADE etched itself as a watershed moment, where the winds of change swept across the land, redefining the course of history and reshaping the geopolitical landscape for generations to come.
