Audonese People

Ethnicities / Cultures

Written by Fulma02

Introduction

Audons, also rendered as Audonic or the Audonese people, are an ethnolinguistic group originating from and culturally affiliated with the Audon region and its surroundings. The current population is divided between the independent country Audon and the multiple areas in Gulatak. Most of them speak Audonic, a language from the Hastrian language family.

Creation

Archaeologists have discovered remnants of a 4,000-year-old civilisation in the greater Audon region, and believe the finds are one of the earliest signs of settlement in the region. However, evidence of much older Palaeolithic human habitations were found in the form of a stone implement and a hand axe. Artefacts suggest that the unnamed civilisation, which flourished in present-day South Audon, date as far back as 2000 BC. Not far from the rivers, the port city was believed to have been engaged in foreign trade with ancient Norlandic civilizations. The people of this civilisation live in bricked homes, walked on wide roads, used silver coins and iron weaponry among many other things. It is thought to be the oldest city in Bengal and in the eastern part of the subcontinent as a whole.

Demographics

Audons are the third-largest ethnic group in the Hastrian subcontinent, after the Katkals. Thus, they are the largest ethnic group within the Hastrian ethnic group. Apart from Audon and the Gulatak states of Audonese-majority populations also reside in the southern provinces of Norland and the northern areas of Flania, also with significant populations in Katkal. The global Audonese diaspora have well-established communities in Mashriquia, Norland, Nestefer, Flania, and Hardalan. Audons are a diverse group in terms of religious affiliations and practices. Today, approximately 67% are adherents of Tasunism with a large Totraist minority and sizable communities of Schmenics. Audonese Totraists, primarily reside in foreign countries such as Norland or Katkal. Audonese Totraists, who live primarily in West Audon, Gulatak, and Katkal, also follow regional religions. There also exist small numbers of Audonese Schmenics, a large number of whom are descendants of Mashriquian voyagers. Like every culture group in history, Audons have greatly influenced and contributed to diverse fields, notably the arts and architecture, language, folklore, and literature.
