Campen Border Crisis

War / Conflict

Written by Fulma02

Introduction

The Campen Border Crisis was a battle between Pascuit's Federation Army and the Addian Border Guards. The small battle ended not too long after the first rifles were shot, but caused more than a thousand casualties for both sides, civilians included in the statistics are mostly killed in multiple crossfire incidents.

Background

Even though the build-up of Addian forces caused multiple minor incidents, they subsided quickly. However, on this occasion, a specific Federation soldier stationed with his battalion near the Addian border started discharging his firearm at innocent refugees for no particular reason. This alerted nearby Addian officers who ordered their men to fire back. The officers' initial thought was that they were being fired on by Federation soldiers as their men were off-duty at that time. However, an Addian soldier questioned an officer if he could investigate the shots before firing. When this was refused, other units on both sides were put on alert; with tension rising, the Addian forces started firing on the Federation Army, which further escalated the situation.

History

In the year 1871, The Campen started Militarising, which was a startling act for surrounding countries. In Muzgada, a man named Constantin Balan who was a Miloamenian arranged a riot. His cause for the riot was to convince the King to shift his focus from militarization to more civil problems in his kingdom. 2,398 People who were mostly workers and homeless people joined the protest. The protests were brutally shut down with gunfire. At least 348 people died and 234 people were arrested, Constantin was one of the people who died.   Constantin's death and the brutal response to the protests angered the King of the Addians and as a counter, he chose to dispatch more men onto the border with the Pascuit Federation. Approximately 25,000 men were brought to the border for inspection operations. The Military of the Federation did not take kindly to this act and responded by sending twice the amount of men to the Border. (This is all happening on the border with Muz and north N'henga).   Meanwhile, more protests against Militirising were brutally put down and an influx of refugees started appearing. However, when said refugees attempted to travel to the borders of Bodesse and Pascuit, they were either arrested, harassed, or even killed. The extreme treatment of said refugees would later cause a revolution that would arrive in a few decades.

Aftermath

Many losses, both civilian and military, died in the weeks where the conflict transpired. Approximately 2,855 Federal forces, 344 Addian Border Guards, and thousands of civilians died during the crisis. But even though the Federation attempted multiple times to convince the Addians to cease the fighting, the violence would not end until another 7 months would pass by, and both sides agreed to withdraw their forces. The conflict was considered by many to be the worse catastrophe in the Federation of Pascuit's history and it severely damaged Pascuit's economical stability. a total of 2,855 Federal Forces died and only 344 Addian Border Guards died, not counting the civilians they were killing weekly.
