Merisotan-Alierum wars

PROLOGUE

Alierum and Merisota were two very different yet very close states in souther Pascuit in 600 BCE. The first were the natives of the area, organized into a seven city federation (one of them being the port near Zekabria) . These people wrote in a cuneiform script and their language was a dialect of the Campeche tongue. Their society was based on marriage and spouses, and the biggest honor a man could do is to give his daughter to an allie in marriage. Now, the Merisotans on the other hand, were not natives of the area. They were a group of Mesedians that had split from the original caravan over a hundred years prior to the conflict, and had settled near Alierum because of the famous Alierum mines of precious stone, that the Merisotans used to make jewels.

THE FIRST MERISOTAN-ALIERUM WAR

600 BCE-597 BCE

SPARK THAT CAUSED THE CONFLICT

While the causes of the war aren't completely verifiable, it is said that the prince of Alierum offered his niece in a marriage to one of the children of the Merisotan royal family, and that they refused, causing a war to erupt. The Merisotans had built a decent alliance due to their export of jewels, and they relied on this alliance on the war. They had allied with the far away Arsadian Republic, the first statal republic of this area of the Western Continent. On the contrary, the Alierum had allied with the city-state of Vincius in the North of modern-day Pascuit.

THE WAR

The conflict was initially fought only on land. The Alierum, being more accostumed to the terrain, were able to defeat the numerically superior Merisotan army, and were able to occupy all their lands apart for the main fort of the Merisotans. Meanwhile, the Arsadians had started sending land support. In the second phase of the war, Vinicius, Alierum's allie, sent their navy to fight the Arsadian navy, thinking that thats were they would put their troops. The Vincius, convinced in an easy win, defeated the Arsadian navy and started blockading the Arsadian ports. But the Arsadians were not coming by sea. Infact, by the time the Vinicius had started the naval blockade, the Arsadian army had arrived to Alierum. The third phase of the war saw the Merisotan army, alongside the Merisotan royalty, fleeing north, occupying the 7th city of Alierum, their port. As they went north, they managed to send a message to the Arsadians, asking them to liberate the mainland. The Arsadians, with over a thousand men, managed to easily occupy the remaining 6 cities of Alierum , and to defeat them in battle, freeing Merisota. But this wasn't the end of the war. The fourth phase started when the Alierum army reorganized and left for the port, that they took with no resistance, as the Merisotans had come back south. But while this was happening, the Arsadians needed to resupply, so a series of athrocities was inflicted against the occupied Alierum population. More than 2 thousand people were enslaved, and over 3 thousand were killed. With the army resupplied , the Arsadians and Merisotans united into a single front to go against the last remaining bastion of Alierum, the port.

ENDING

This would not go as planned. The Merisotan and Arsadian armies arrived at the port, but the Alierum had built such good defences that storming it would have been impossible. A YEAR LONG SIEGE took place, causing both parties to loose interest in the war. In the end the Merisotans and Arsadians, unable to keep going, decided to make a deal with the Aulierum. Many of the lands took in the war would be given back, and while Merisota would still expand, no monetary compensations would be demanded. This war would not be the end of Alierum. But the next one would.

THE SECOND MERISOTAN-ALIERUM WAR

541 BCE-540 BCE

SPARK OF THE WAR

Alierum was defeated in the first but was trying to make sure not to be defeated in the second. The Arsadians were a good ally to the Merisotans in the first war and decided to not end their partnership there. Alierum had an alliance too and both nations quickly started re-arming their Kingdoms to best the other after the peace talks broke down. The outbreak of the war began when Alierum soldiers stepped foot into Merisotan Soil, after decades of peace.

THE MERISOTAN RETALIATION

King Petro of Merisota did not hesitate to try and push them back, and so he did, after days of fighting in Merisotan terrain. He sent them back beyond the Merisotan border and to the Alierum In-land capital and besieged it. The siege lasted for 200 days, but in the end the newly built Alierum fortifications were nothing against the newly arrived Arsadian armies, that got there through the sea this time, after defeating the weak navy of the allies of Alierum. The city fell by 540 BCE. The Alierum armies were chased back to the port near Zekabria and went on a brilliant final stand.

THE FINAL STAND OF ALIERUM

The port was now less defended than in the first war, due to Alierum spending most of it's fortification efforts in the mainland. The last battle was commanded by Petro, who now claimed the status of "Conqueror". The last battle was bloody but decisive: Alierum was defeated once and for all, and it's lands Fully Integrated into the Merisotan Kingdom.
