Second Merisotan Civil War

War / Conflict

Written by Fulma02

Introduction

The Second Merisotan Civil War was a conflict initiated by General Cedric Garvais when he orders his army to assault The Path, which was a province that connects Zekhaabrien and the Aureum mainland. The war ended with the collapse of the Mesedian military and government, accompanied with a slow and destructive victory for the Merisotans.

History

The conflict starts with General Cedric Gervais dispatching his army to attack The Path. The initial invasion leads to the siege of the city of Terminus. Cedric's army consisted of 4000 Cavalry, 30,000 Musketeers and 10 cannons, a pretty primed army at the time. Petro III, the Merisotan king during that time, obtained a message from the mayor of Terminus who was concealed in nearby villages. The message consist of various knowledge of the invasion started by Cedric's army and a reauest to send in a relief force.   In response to the distrss call sent by the mayor, Petro sent his best army the Exercitus Rei Publicae (old mesedian) as the relief force. It consisted of 60,000 Musketeers 10,000 cavalry and 250 cannons which was considered to be one of the biggest mobilization of the Merisotan Army in history. The massive mobilization brought vast concerns to the hordes of the south and the addian states. The relief force was sent to break the siege of Terminus. However, due to the army's large numbers, it slowed down transportation which caused the Merisotan force to arrive overdue.   After Cedric's forces was pushed back by Meridotan forces, he was compelled to defend and hold the Merisotan army off. But with worsening conditions and supplies virtually non-existent, it was apparent that the war was going awry for Cedric's Army. It is possible that they have lost more land than what they have gained. Throughout the entirety of the second month, Cedric's forces would be propelled entirely out of the region.

Fall of Mesed

After the massive defeats experienced by Cedric's forces, the Merisotan Armies concluded to halt the invasion and attempts to sue for peace. Nevertheless, the Mesedians refuse the peace offer from the Merisotans due to historical reasons. Regardless, the command structure of the Mesedians fell which caused small militias to be a "last resort" force to keep fighting against the Merisotans. The militias didn't last long and eventually surrendered to Merisotan forces after the Mesedian capital was seized.

Aftermath

Right after the last and final militias surrendered, any resistance against the Merisotans were immediately crushed. Petro III had plans to instigate reforms in the country while the war with Mesed was still ongoing. And due to it, many elements has changed in just a span of a few months. The country was relearning old merisotan latin which proved to be a considerably difficult task for the people. Furthermore, the population doubled in the last few years from 430 AD's 10,667,922 to 441AD's 24,009,087. But due to the extensive fighting, it declined at a passive rate due to the war having more than 250,000 losses on both sides.
