Sunain people

Written by Zoubek

Meet the "Sunain" people. Minority ethnic group located in modern South Mashriquia. They got into the country after the Ferom disaster, in 5-10AD (according to records). Originally a group of only 3k people. Nowadays Sunain people make up to 10% of the population of five south-east provinces.

History

Sunain people are from Bachoi origin - more specifically from Sunan Empire era - which gave them their ethnonyme "Sunain". After Ferom Disaster they came into the region fleeing their inhospitable homeland. South Mashriqua region was not as impacted due to its distance to super-volcano and proximity to equator.
Historically speaking they were really conservative (culturally) and did great job in keeping their culture intact till second half of first millenium. According to records major conversion to native religion did not happen till 500s and their language did not get major influences from "outside" till 600s.

Nowadays

Sunain people nowadays are a very interesting ethnic group of the region. They are specific by their outer looks - but not as much as when they came here due to mixing. Whilst native people of region looks arabic, Sunain people resemble south-east asian phenotype.
Their language is an independent language from South Mashriquan official language. It's intelligibility to standard variation is around 50-60% in spoken form and 60-70% in written form. One of main reasons for this is that around 30% of their dialect's/language vocabulary is from Que Liang. Their pronounciation is also specific but not too much.
