The Sorcerers' Guild

Very rarely, the Thieves' Guild will hire a black wizard for a specific, short-term contract. (The only Grand master in living memory to employ an official Guild sorcerer was the ill-fated Krovas.)   Still, their oaths bind them to the cause of magic, and they keep a vigilant eye on the eldritch fabric of the spellbound world.

Structure

The organization is broken down into 3 sections: Dragon, Giant, Chaos. Each section has 4 Master members, whose identity is completely secret. Each of the 4 masters serve a compass direction; north, south, east, west. So the Master of the North Dragon is a title, as is the Master of the North Giants, Master of the North Chaos. Each member has a Journeyman that servers them personally and teaches the apprentices. There are 12 apprentices per member, and members can only be replaced in death by their Journeyman, and Journeyman can only be replaced by apprentices. Apprentices wear mask to conceal their identity. Each section is equal but there is always lateral moves to forward the sections importance in the guild. The Over Sorcerer is the highest rank of the organization and rules over all sections. Currently the Over Sorcerer is on the council of 13 for the overlord.

Public Agenda

The Gathering is comprised of a council formed by master sorcerers, who have proven their grasp of their chosen Origin through the creation of a great work of magic and sworn to work for the benefit of the guild and against all who would oppose them. They are the Sorcerers or the chosen few. They have a duty to preserve magical knowledge whenever they can, and act for the betterment of the guild through research or, in some rare instances, by tracking down knowledge too dangerous to be left in the wrong hands, and eradicating those monsters borne from the perversions of the hidden magic, or to control those monster to do the guilds bidding.

Assets

The Guild Tower, were all gather. Each master also has a house that servers as a residence; apprentices, servents, slaves and guards are located at all houses. These large compounds are well known in the city, due to agreements with The Slayers' Brotherhood, who are required to protect each compound. the Sorcerers also have magical protection of unknown power.

History

The Gathering of Sorcerers is a secretive order who organize to exchange, perpetuate and expand magical knowledge. It was founded by one of the original 13, Baron of Telomer, and a small group of wealthy patrons who wanted power. Among the rumored backers are the mysterious directors of the Niobe Knab, whose bonds with House of the Overlord run deep.

- By the Power of Truth, I, while living, have Conquered the Universe.

Each Sorcerer also has a duty to teach, though some may choose not to fulfill it. A Sorcerer may take on an apprentice and enter a pledge with them. The guild Sorcerers owes their apprentice food, clothing, lodging and knowledge, vowing to train them until they can be expected to wander the world to complete their formation on their own as a journey man/journeywoman. The apprentice owes the master obedience, loyalty and labor as their assistant to the death, in return for master's protection, care and tutoring.   Sorcerers, apprentices and journeymen affiliated with the Gathering may use the various facilities owned or rented by the Gathering's backers, who also provide food and lodging there. However, the Sorcerers receive no pay, and their expenses are payed for by their own careers. Sorcerers may work as they desire, as court wizards, artificers, alchemists, conduits to the Dead, scholars of the occult and mercenaries plying their art to that of war. They can move through the world, content in the knowledge that they are part of a community whose names are kept away from prying eyes.
