Aracnos
As one of the most enigmatic races of Lantartia, considering how widespread in the world they are and yet having a mostly unknown (or unspoken about) origin, shrouded in rumors and tales.
Aracnos are more frequently encountered or sought after for their skills and cunning, since they are rarely concentrated in city districts or even in small towns. This lack of physical connection among themselves fuel their reputation as callous beings and feeds conspiratorial suspicions about how they manage to have clear cultural traits and traditions with such a scarce world distribution. The exception for this are aracnean alchemy colleges, the spires of the reputable Weaver’s Guild and the mysterious Interplanar Trading Syndicate lairs, where a concentration of up to 50% aracnean population is commonplace.
Having the lower body shaped as a dark colored giant spider with a humanoid torso, from which sprout six menacing spidery legs with clawed tips, two of which curve upwards around their backs, points facing ahead, their eight eyes, bald oval shaped heads and a sleepy gleaming exoskeleton for skin don’t help to dispel the rumors of sinister eeriness about them. Their venomous chelicerae coiled in front of their mouths also discourages asking too much about such things... They have two humanoid long arms and fingers with four joints each. These look disconcertingly bent in almost any position and dexterous movement they make and can also harm first impressions and the unwary unaccustomed to the species.
Due to the calculatingly logical, utilitarian and somewhat detached attitudes when express themselves fundament the perception from other peoples of their callousness. Interacting with them is often described as requiring wrestling against personal discomfort and disbelieving deep seated ancestral survival instincts.
They can produce large amounts of webs, that are versatile tools and clearly help them in urgent situations like fights, escape or falls, along with a multitude of crafty and other creative uses. These include means of exploration through complex terrains, repairing or making small objects and sometimes even cocoon-like houses perching high on trees, cliffs and the likes.
