Mephisos
On the last years of the First Cataclysm and on the following centuries of the start of the Second Eon, as the inferior planes gained access to the unique material plane of Lantartia, demons, followed by their devil foes and all other sorts of malignant entities abounded. They were eager to fight for power. And the, until then, unreachable land was a tempting prize indeed. An entire reality untouched by corruption or gods, where magic and life were still new was unimaginable.
Evil’s lust for might revealed to the most powerful and ancient fiendish entities the existence of fractions of Loda’s energies. And that those, somehow, were greater than any god and all of reality was simply too juicy a thing to ignore. This has mostly expressed itself as the legendary demons’ quests for the Lemoda Amarkril, the Uressencial Elemental Stones of Power (or Lem’markril, Gems of Power), as these damnful incursions of all kinds of evil beings has been recorded.
If those artifacts did exist and what they could do isn’t known any more. What the idea of them did, as by the written history of the First Cataclysm (from Eras old partial copies of even more ancient fragmented texts), was to cause the most apotheotic infighting of evil forces ever. At the cost of its equivalent amount of sheer chaos and blight.
As individual evils of all shapes and pettiness learned of these prizes, all set foot immediately. The search strategies varied. Some were obsessively focused, but less overtly powerful or daringly smarter fiends evaded most consequences of the destruction. A few of those survived. And they stayed. Eventually, as the millennia flew by, they became the material plane native (thus, mortal) entities known today as Mephisos.
