Tortles
“To bear the weight of the world atop their shells” says it all. Tortles are consistently described by this saying, albeit in slightly different versions.
Tortles look like tortoises in a humanoid shape, they have slender necks, powerful jaws and a big protective shell towards which they can almost fully retreat the rest of their bodies. Their shells are big, hard and vary so much in shape between individuals, that any full suit of armor they intend to wear have to be made (or adapted) specifically for them, which renders the enterprise typically meaningless given the time, costs and overall effectiveness of it.
Most cultures that have experiences with tortles remember some of their tales or legends. The tortles widespread population and easy going ways were strong factor that lead to the development of well known hospitality rules in the world. And those speak even more truthfully regarding welcoming the turtle people; thanks to their esteemed reputation.
Most of turtles take on a nomad, solitary lifestyles or dwell in small groups, doing work and good however best they can. This kind of wandering approach and simultaneously expressing a selflessness that is very authentic, so humble and effortless it is, makes differing adventurers and common citizens a hard and mostly philosophical endeavor. Not to say that they think all alike, don’t diverge on political attitudes or that they can’t be evil or dishonorable. They can, but it’s hard to find examples and, when they do, it’s almost like being very discreet about it is a necessity. More than a taboo, selfishness or zealotry seems utterly dissonant in their cultures and mindsets.
