Peyadi

Peyadi is the only natural satellite orbiting Elis. Once beautiful, green, and abundant with life, this pale moon is now a grim husk following a cataclysm that made life on its surface impossible. What life that survived the initial destruction of the catastrophe fled into pocket dimensions whose entrances are scattered across Peyadi's surface.

Origin Myths

Peyadi has many origin stories spread across the civilizations of Elis. Though they share many similar threads, they all differ from the story of the moon's native people, the Peyamir.   Peyamiri tales say their land is named after the goddess that created it, Peyadi. The goddess is said to have crafted the moon from her flesh, pulling and stretching the skin until it separated into a ball. The Peyamir recount that Peyadi plucked plants and animals from her garden (Elis) and cultivated the moon to be survivable by her people.   The Peyamir's culture is ancient and vastly disconnected from the cultures on the planet they orbit. Due to the cataclysm, the terrestrial cultures of Elis are unaware of the moon's former illustrated appearance; instead, very few descriptions exist of a colored moon dated during the earliest periods of the Mava'Valia empire (est. 15,000 FA). The people of Elis share a tale that the moon was an egg laid by a titanic serpent who placed the egg in the sky to hide it from those who wished to destroy it. The most common retelling of this tale is known as "The Great Serpent's Eggs". The one similarity between the two sources is that the moon originates as some biological mass from its creator, either as flesh or as an egg.
