Psytenephants

"At last, my farmland is ripe and ready for harvest. Nothing could bring such a tear to my eye than the sight of this beautiful crop.... Wait. What's that sound?"
Fevered trumpeting blasts in the distance.
"Oh gods, no. Not psytenephants!"
The Psytenephant (pronounced sy-TEN-uh-fant), sometimes known as Phase Grazers, are a large, spiked herbivore capable of shifting from plane to plane. These lazy creatures will slowly trample their way through the multiverse in search of their favorite meals. Psytenephants are so listless to the world around them that they will not even react to attacks from predators. As an evolutionary trait, psytenephants have developed sharp thorns and across their bodies to deter potential hunters.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The adult Psytenephant measures up to 30 meters long and weighs several dozen tons - records exist of few psytenephants surpassing even these proportions. A thick, thorny hide spans this fatty creature laden with muscles that seem designed for endless feeding. The psytenephant wields a massive prehensile nose long enough to grasp foliage off of the ground, and four seven-toed feet ending in scooped claws that gore into the ground to lock itself in place. Psytenephants must breathe clean air, but thanks to their incredible lung capacity they are able to spend great amounts of time foraging airless planes.   As a psytenephant ages they will develop groups of tusks around their mouths. On average, a fully grown psytenephant will sport six red tusks. These tusks along with their body spikes are used for defense against would be predators.

Genetics and Reproduction

Because of their large size, a psytenephant's gestation period lasts about two years. During this period, the psytenephant mother will release psychic energy waves needed for the baby's growth. These psychic waves will often attract predators, and as a result only the thorniest and resilient specimens will survive long enough to reproduce.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Although psytenephants have the largest ears in the world, their hearing capabilities are minimal. Rather than using their hearing, psytenephants rely on their sight and psychic powers to locate their food. Through the use of their psionics, psytenephants are able to sense the location of their favorite foods across the multiverse. As their psychic powers grow with age, the psytenephant will grow additional pairs of eyes. Each pair of eyes is capable of seeing into different planes of existence at the same time.
