Sekikani

The Sekikani warrior caste of the crab-like Kanizai civilization makes up a section of their societal elite. Only those deemed worthy of learning their secret arts, but once they become a Master a Sekikani will be revered where they may go.

Origin

The Sekikani began as a monastic order of scholars just outside the Kanizai capital of Oto. With the intention to develop new methods of utilizing natural magic, the monks began studying martial arts and swordsmanship. Over centuries the Sekikani cultivated their abilities into an elegant method of magic by channeling their spirit through their blades.

Sekikani in Kanizai Society

A Sekikani warrior is both respected and feared among the lower castes of Kanizai. The Sekikani are the second highest caste below only the noble caste, and as such are privy to nearly every privilege possible. A Sekikani Master will often be provided free meals and lodging while traveling and the same courtesy may also be extended to their apprentices (lest their apprentice reports some offense to their Master).   Sekikani live year-round in their Dojos. Some cities of sufficient size will have their own unique Dojo and many of the larger cities will have multiple dojo's. A Dojo will specialize in its own variation of the Sekikani style of martial arts. A Sekikani Dojo is very insular and will only extend its knowledge to those who can prove themselves worthy of learning the arts. This means that anyone from another caste or non-Kanizai civilization can aspire to join the ranks of the Sekikani someday.   While it is an everyday occurrence for Sekikani to receive boons from their fellow citizens, it is also a Dojo's duty to give back to their communities. Feats to inspire the citizenry can include but are not limited to defending villages and cities from ne'er-do-wells, slaying dangerous beasts, and performing difficult labors such as lifting fallen trees, boulders, or other hazards.
