Zolomon's Spire

Named after its discoverer and located outside the Keepers of True Faith's oldest garrison, Crestmark, Zolomon's Spire is a green crystalline tower of immense size and mysterious origin. Some within the Keeper's faith believe the spire resembles a mythical structure from the legends of Ocantu, known as Ocantu's Spear, making it a holy site. Others believe that it is a source of evil due to the massive amounts of magical energy it outputs. Despite differences in opinion, the Grand Marshals and Arch-bishops agreed the spire deserves to be under constant observation.

Architecture

The spire and the surrounding rubble are located at the center of a shallow crater and are composed of viridian crystals. The central tower spirals out the ground for 108 meters like an enormous emerald screw. Around the spire's base is a scattering of crystalline waves that bloom from the tower like flower petals.   Between the jagged eruptions of crystal are the ruins of an ancient fortress. Built during an unknown age, Whitecloak surveyors estimate that the ruins originate from an ancient Elven civilization.

History

"Ocantu's Spear" (Myth)

A tale within The Divinity recounts a great emerald structure similar in appearance to Zolomon's Spire. The story tells of an evil warlock who dwelled within an impenetrable keep. The mage conspired against his people and sought to destroy all of civilization. As punishment for his evil deeds, Ocontu struck down the warlock with a tremendous emerald spear that pierced the keep and drove the evil one deep into the earth.

Modern Discovery

On an expedition through the Corvic Mountains in 211 ER, Keeper Zolomon Thangavel rediscovered the spire that would become his namesake. Decades later, the Whitecloaks would construct their first garrison overlooking the crystal structure. For many years, the Keepers would not travel near the tower out of superstition of the magical fields generated off of the spire. Eventually, the garrison mustered a group of soldiers encroaching on the crater to find that a force of ancient, anthropomorphic golems defended it. A light war was raged against the seemingly endless amounts of magical constructs for most of an age.   In 800 Second Age, the Whitecloak garrison believed it had finally accomplished its goal of eradicating the automaton army and was at last able to breach the ruins within the crater. However, upon breaking the stone seal on the ruined gates, the Keepers discovered that the ruin was infested with goblins. In recent months, the Whitecloak garrison has been able to penetrate the goblin horde undetected, only to find a deep descent of basements and caverns. Those spelunkers who survived the depths report delving to at least four levels beneath the spire.
