Boral
One of the more intelligent species to be created by the Giants after the fall of their civilization, the Boral exist in small bands roving through the Titanic Deeps. They were created with the intent of them being a "seeker" race, one who would go into the Deep, exploring, and bringing back resources. Whether valuable ore and gems or even the belongings of other underground beings (including other Titans), the purpose they were originally instilled with was to provide their master with whatever they could find, with an eye to valuable and useful objects.
As is often their way, the creator of the boral abandoned them and moved deeper into the underworld. The boral that were left behind were initially lost and aimless without any master to please through discovery. With time however they eventually developed into a gerontocracy, where the eldest of their kind became the new master. An internal hierarchy grew from here, where each member of the species was served by any number of younger beings, each seeking out things to bring back to their home and to hand "upwards".
This hierarchy became a complex web of relationships, but it appears to be completely and inherently understood by the boral themselves. Each individual can tell at a glance whom the elder one is, and thus act with deference or authority as is appropriate. Whether this is some legacy of the giants' magic and desire to create a perfect servant or something that grew on its own, the result is a strangely peaceful society, growing outward into the Deeps, a web of provision and service..
