Home Feast
As the school year winds to a close, classes cease and annual exams loom over Lawke's Academy. Students can be found in their dorms, the library, and all over Lawke's grounds scouring through books and notes, practicing various skills, and weaving intricate spells. All trying to find the balance between exam preparedness and complete exhaustion.
But the Friday morning before exams, as the first rays of sun begin to peek over Mångfald Forest, an explosion of delicious aromas draws students from their slumbers. As they enter the Great Hall, they are greeted by a smorgasbord of sites and smells many have not experienced since leaving home - Gobberberry Pie from Litenstad. Thrice-baked Echo Beans from Gebondekrag. Skull Pepper Curry from Eer Sadyr!
For the last year we have pushed you. Pushed your minds to explore foreign concepts and pushed your bodies to perform foreign feats. For the last week you have pushed yourselves. Pushed your knowledge, capabilities, and ability to buckle down and study to foreign heights. All this time in foreign territory is enough to drive a person mad. With that in mind, Lawke's Academy offers you this bit of respite - Until the clock strikes midnight, these doors will stay open to a revolving cornucopia of comfort foods from all over Anscyor and beyond. And there is to be no studying. Relax. Eat. Play. Recuperate. Today, we are not faculty, staff, or student. Today, we are family. Welcome, to Home Feast!- Edith Lawke
Execution
Preparing so many different dishes all at once is a daunting task, even for the most trained cooks. All faculty and staff are required to assist in preparation and execution of Home Feast.
(Insert info about individual instructors doing stuff here?)
Deep down, most of the faculty enjoy the change of pace from their instructional routine. For many, the action, cooperation, and camaraderie of a frantic kitchen is reminiscent of their days in the field... without the imminent threat of death.
Participants
Throughout the year, (insert cook’s name) is seen flitting and fussing over the food she prepares and the people who eat it. There is no doubt that this is driven by genuine concern for her diner’s culinary enjoyment. However, her easy, motherly questions are also gathering intel for Home Feast:
- “How did you like the dumplings? I hear they’re similar to a dish where you’re from...”
- “My mother used to make this for me when I was sad or worried. Did your parents make something like that for you?”
- “I’m sorry you didn’t like the Flumpweed Soufflé. Tell me, if you could have anything at all, what would it be?”
