Ghanima

Ghanima est un monde civilisé mineur. Majoritairement exempté de la dîme à cause de sa population minimale et donc de sa production conséquente, le monde est principalement autonome et la majorité de sa production excessive est taxée par les institutions impériales. Les Brigades Mécanisées Ghaniméennes, cependant, sont réputées pour leur manque de motivation et d'effort, même après un entrâinement rigoureux sous la tutelle du Departemento Munitorum et Ghanima fut inspectée à de nombreuses reprises afin d'identifier des tenances traîtresses sans rien y trouver.   Après les raids Drukhari sur Ghanima, les Lances Ghaniméennes soulevées par le déchu Marshall Militarum Surepar Partheo participèrent activement à la sauvegarde du secteur Gorien contre les forces Word Bearer, amenant finalement le monde paisible dans le giron des fournisseurs d'armées impériales de renom.

    Avant-garde
    Political event

    Privateer Dextor Huggio takes overall command of the Ghanimedes military Theater in advance of the Imperial Liberation Effort.    He orders the 3rd Ghanimedes Lancers Brigade and the 5th Mechanised to occupy the spaceport. The xenos forces instantly counter attack and send the PDF forces in disarray, which abandons its tank which are lacking gas.    Gigantic gene-enhanced monstrosoties of human and xenos knit flesh destroy tanks and infantry formations in a massacre at the spaceport. AT-70 and AT-83 are abandoned, burning or emptied, while the infantry run amock and is slaughtered in its retreat.      During this time, the Penland Orbital defence are assaulted by xenos forced while Dextor Huggio and the First Lancers' Brigade try to sabotage them without success. Xenos raiding party slaughter all the men during their operation, the survivors being taken prisonners and brought out of world.

    Orbital First Contact
    Military action

    At their arrival in system the Halo Sun and Merican Grace destroyers position themselves in the ship ruins orbiting ghanima, using their cover and the high availability of material to be mined to launch punishing long ranged torpedoes borbing and lance attacks. One of the venom-class xenos cruiser is destroyed in the confrontation, helped by the last remaining system-ship under command of Ghanima Naval-Commodore Vasilian, whose shots goes wide and burn bright in Ghanima's Atmosphre. Still, this is the first success of the void war as the xenos ships is sent spirraling and detonating in the void.   Under command from Magos Solos Iptek II of the Managharn Mechanicum, the remaining void-bombers squadrons from the Ghanimedes PDF make an heroic charge against an other venom-class light cruiser, plasma and ordnance bombs gutting the ships before it answers in a devastating broadside that ends the ghanimedes pilots.    Further in-system, an other venom-class cruiser open fire in a devastating lance and torpedoes bombardment against the ghanimedes system-ship, punishing it for opening against one of its kin. The damages gut Commodore Vasilian capital ship, destroying the command bridge, its remaining void shields and plasma drives. Fortunately, the commodore was doing a routine checks upon lower decks and while he was criticaly burnt by the backwash of the flames, survived the assault.   The Merican Grace is then victim from a Bloodied-Claw class xenos cruiser, which torpedoes and dark lance gut the ships and send most of the crew to an agonising death in the cold void of space while the ship's superstructure is burning bright in the void.    Ghanima's orbit is alight with the devastation.

    The resistance
    Military action

    The Drukhari Xenos Raiders have complete control over Ghanima's surface, caputring, torturing and enslaving the population. While the surviving ghanimedes regiments are mostly occupied to protect columns of refugees or setting guerrilla actions, Lancer-Commander Brostom, head of the Ghanimedes PDF forces try to rally some militias and survivors around him to fortify the capital of the Thaxted Burian Dominion, palace of the PLanetary Government. His words rally a few determined defenders, but not much of what is necessary to hold back the xenos advance that are in total mastery of the city. At night, the screaming antigrav engines of the xenos are soon to be followed by the anguished screams of those taken prisonners...   In the region of Penland, Dextor Huggio, Mordrek Vorn and Ernestor Grace make a daring assault against the orbital batteries under the control of the xenos to prepare the landings in the following months. Their attack destroys two of the batteries, while Mordrek Vorn is hideously mutilated by xenos monstrosities surging from the dark in a storm of smoke, balefire and blades.

    The Last Star and Stripes
    Military action

    While most of the Imperial Fleet under Magos Iptek II command exchange broadsides and long range lance fire with the xenos fleet, most of it is without effect in a mouse and cat predatory dance. However, in a rare suicidal action, one of the Venom Cruisers makes an headlong charge against the Merican Grace. The ancient Terran starship of Corrino's dynasty is butted by the assault and sent spinning before its plasma drives detonate in a partial sun that sends most of its carcass in the deep of the void.   The mutilated xenos ships is destroyed upon arrival of the ship Fist of Drusus from the remaining Navis Imperialis Calixis elements of the Gorian Sector, under command of Marshall Militarum Calixis Jonas Viridian.

    Orbital stagnation
    Military action

    Timid fleet engagements are only shaken by the intervention of the Liberator Regis in high orbit of Ghanima, where the lances and many fighter and bomber wings of the Emperor-Class battle-ship are chasing the Bloodied Claw and Venom-Class ships of the xenos fleet without success.   However, the Bolsunn Arrow is able to score damaging hits upon one capital ship of the xenos fleet, destroying some illusion shields and weapon batteries, while one of the venom blade fires without success on Commodore Vasilian's system ship and the Bolsunn Arrow.   The planet's surface is battered by kilotons of spaceship debris, the population screaming as many are burnt to a crisp by sudden fire balls blasting across the ruined cityscape.

    The landing's preparation
    Military action

    In preparation of the landing of the Imperial Liberation forces, Lancer-Commander Brostom orders the planetary capital's lockdown, just before a new xenos raids attack the city and slaughter its remaining defenders.   Lancer-Commander Brostom is killed in action and his body flayed and exposed on the highway connecting to the capital for all refugees columns to see.    Fleeing citizen and refugees are attacked by the marauding xenos that have free reign on the planet and tens of thousands are brought screaming by the Drukhari.   During this time, Privateer Dextor Huggio and some of his elite agents sabotage the last orbital defence silo, killing some of its occupant, while Marshall Militarum Surepar Partheo lures the xenos inside, causing many casualties and damage by detonating the structure when many of their numbers are searching for the Marshall and the Privateer.   This small victory brings hope on the planet, even though very limited. During this time, agents from Magos Solops Itek II infiltrates the slave camps of the Titonburian Province, discovering a monstrous xenos scientist that they attack while unguarded. The drukhari flees while severely wounded but too late for the Imperial to have effects. New slave armies and lobotomised warriors are added to the xenos forces.   During this time, the Titonburian Spacesport is the site of violent skirmishes, while powerful agents under Dextor Huggio's command are sent to prepare the arrival of an Adeptus Astartes Strike force from the Stone Warden Space Marines chapter. They are, however, found and attacked, suffering heavy losses during the process.

    The Thaxtedburian Frontier offensive
    Military action

    Already lacking Prometheum after a few weeks of intensive battle, Lord Marshall Surepar Partheo orders his first and second Sakarsteen Musketeers armored divisions to mass at the frontier of Newbiria. However, powerful chem-enhanced mutant slaves are sent by the xenos in a counter attack. The Second division arrives first, less afflicted by lack of prometheum and spare parts for their armored vehicles, and is overwhelmed by the slaves which rips through their tanks and slaughter and rout the infantry just before the arrival of the first mechanised musketeer division, which surprise the degenerates feasting on their victory, killing them to the last.    During this time, the Sakarsteen Knights Heavy Infantry Division are sent with the 1st Tank Divisions in an assault towards the coast, where they are confronted by another slave coven of mutated prisonners. The offensive is a success as the knights arrive first and engage the xenos, not without suffering some heavy losses before the the 1st Tank Division drive through their ranks and crush them under their tracks.   The surviving forces are retreating under heavy bombardments from the Leman Russes of Sakarstine Prima.

    The Thaxte Bay offensive
    Military action

    North of capital, the private military armies under commander Ernestor Grace are mobilising to secure an important naval staging area. Vicious firefights with lasweapons and bolters starts against one of the raiding parties there, which fight ferociously. The Bhelburg city is victim of this first confrontation, buildings being torn asunder and the streets covered in both xenos and human bodies. The skies are covered by oily smokes after days of intense battles before the xenos retreat closer to Thaxte Bay.

    The Thaxtedburian Landing
    Military action

    Orbitting ships start disgorging their landers, which are falling on the planetary area of the Thaxtedburian space port to find the traces of the extremely violent confrontation between 4 Stone Warden Adeptus Astartes Companies and the occupying xenos.    This very sight was also seen in the coast of Newbigia where many astartes squads and predator tanks exterminated most of the xenos occupation force there. Hundreds of kilometres of corpses, raiders debris dans flaming prometheum towers were left behind.   Under command of Jonas Viridian, Calixian Marshall Militarum, orders his 1st and 2nd Brontian Longknives veteran divisions to organise an eastward beachead to stimms the drukhari reinforcements. Showing the important tactical acumen of such a division, a powerful counter attack by the xenos commanded by Archon Selenthyl itself thrusted through the imperial lines. Whyches and xenos raiders raided the 1st divisions, where Calixian Marshall Viridian himself ordered the ranks of his men in devastating baionnets and long knives charge under the covering fires of lines of imperial guardsmen, his powerblade igniting and decapitating many of the xenos. He ordered his second division in a pincer attack that was foreseen by Archon Selenthyl. The whych cabals and raiders slaughetered and routed the 2nd division, capturing most of its survivors and sending them away screaming.     During this time, three legions of Sardaukars deployed themselves from the Liberator Regis. The Second and Third legion engaged one of the xenos raiding party that used its raiders anti-grav vehicles momentum to counter-attack with renewed vigour, forcing the Sardaukars to retreat in the rubble-strewn streets of the Thaxtedburian capital, where the second legion was all but destroyed, the city strewn with power-armoured bodies and the blood of the brave warriors of the Corrino- dynasty.   During this time, the third legion occupied the proximity of the planetary government institutional palace, preparing to face down in a new assault the xenos forces, weakened but still quite in the fight.    This new battle of the capital let it aflame, thick and oily smoke columns reaching the skies.   During this time, a coordinated sister of battle covent from the Eternal Flame order and the first legion moved towards the Thaxtedburian Synod Cathedral, facing a heavy counter attack as the xenos foreseen the sisters fanatical intervention, using boats from the neighoring admiralty and sending waves of human slaves as a meatshield to occupy the powerful bolters of the power-armoured elite soldiers before the sixth drukarhi raiding parties attacked with their anti-grav vehicles and ravagers' disintegrators.   The Sisters of Battle were decimated and their survivor retreated inside the Cathedral, while the first legion valiantly counter-attacked, trying to drive back the xenos forces without success before retreating inside the fortified walls of the Cathedral.

    Conquest of Ghanima's Orbit
    Military action

    Magos Solos Iptek II orders a decisive orbital action as he takes command of the Liberator Regis Emperor-Class battleship, capital ship of the Imperial Liberation force and makes an headlong charge against the Bloodied Claw ship, capital of the enemy fleet.   A short range brawl explodes, lance fire and torpedoes explosing at point-blank range on both ships before the Liberator Regis finally ram the spinal column of the drukarhi ships and breaks it in half. The Emperor Class battleship slowly drift, victorious but bleeding, out of the confrontation.   During this time, the Fist of Drusus takes the orbit, preparing his landing ships to deploy the Brontian 1st and 2nd Infantry Divisions.   It is the beginning of Ghanima's Liberation.

    The fall of the Third Legion
    Military action

    The Sardaukar Third Legion is routed in the Thaxtedburian Dominion capital city, where their bodies are littering the streets and burning buildings are fled by the disenchanted population that is later mostly taken by the drukhari kabalite warriors and sent in their prison camps abroad.   Many of the Sardaukars aerial transports are destroyed during a last-ditch counter-attack and the remaining warriors are hiding in the city or exacting revenge in small skirmishes against the foul xenos.

    The Titonburian Liberation and Oshbury Liberation
    Military action

    Massive mechanised assault ordered by Marshall Militarum Surepar Partheo liberate two important areas of Ghanima.   First, the Sakarsteen Musketeer Tank Division liberates the Oshbury province, where its tank graveyards are immediately put to work, ancient enginseers and technicians are organised by Marshall Jonas Viridian to put into work ancient armoured transport to complement the infantry companies supporting the First Sakarsteen Tank Division.   These are done fast and at low cost, granting superior forces to the 1st Division that immediately quit the region at the end of tertius to dodge a combined xenos assault in the area.   During this time, the Sakarsteen Knights heavy infantry and a Sakarsteen Musketeers mechanised division attack with all their might a slave camp where most of the xenos chem-mutated slaves are located. The xenos scientist is at their head and the battle is violent and the imperial forces suffer many losses before mutilating the xenos warlord and slaughtering the slave coven.   The Sakarsteen Warriors discover the nightmare science woven over the prisonners in the slave-camp, which is later put to the torch. However, this important victory grants Marshall Militarum Partheo the opportunity to use the dense population of the Titonburian Province to conscript 7 Ghanimedes Lancer armies which are equipped and trained by the Knights.

    Orbital Interdiction
    Military action

    Under Magos Solos Iptek II, the Imperial Liberation Fleet is spreading at the edge of the system to ensure protection against any remaining or hidden xenos ships while the Halo Sun positions itself in low orbit and start bombarding Archon Selenthyl's personal forces to support Calixian Marshall Militarum Jonas Viridian in the dirty close ranged battles on the north-east of the Thaxtedburian spaceport.   While macrocanon shells and lance batteries provoke chains of explosion on the surface, Archon Selenthy drives through the remaining forces of the 1st division to confront the Calixian Militarum Marshall.   Deep in the mud of the trenches and his blade slashing through the xenos, the Marshall is soon faced by Archon Serenthyl poisonous blade. Their clash is the material of epic tales as the commander's bodyguard sacrifice themselves to grant Viridian the necessary opening to deeply wound the xenos warlord which is extracted by his incubi bodyguard. However, this duel determined the fate of the rest of the battle as the Lord Marshall's tactical acumen was concentrated elsewhere and the 1st division was destroyed and its prisonners claimed by the whych cabal and its supporting kabalite warriors.   The Lord Marshall Viridian was later gravely wounded in turn by trying to organise rearward action to try to ensure the retreat of as many of his men as possible.

    The Thaxte Bay Massacre
    Military action

    The Thaxte Bay naval staging area denial offensive turns to the massacre as both Mercenary regiments and Grace Elite units are taken into a devastating counter assault by an Incubi Warclades and fresh kabalite raiding parties from out the country, which use the cover of civilian and military landers from the Admiralty to ensure their arrival.   While the first weeks of battle are a slow but steady progress for the imperial mercenary forces, the arrival of much reinforcements transform the battle into a slaughter, where some of the greatest bolter wielding and heavy armor totting soldiers of the Ernestor Elite are slaughtered to a man by fast moving power-armoured incubis with their energy laced klaives.   Indeed, some part of the this defeated will be blamed over Magos Iptek Solos II failure at coordinating efficient orbital bombardment, which hit Ernestor's forces instead of the xenos one.

    The Sardaukar First legion defends viciously the ruined remains of the massive cathedrals, coordinating frateris militia, resistance fighters and surviving Eternal Flame battle sisters in daring bolter-raids and power-armoured charge.

    The Thaxtedburian Synod Counter-offensive
    Military action

    Unbeknownst to the Sardaukar First Legion, the Sakarsteen 1st Armored Division was lumbering from the Oshbury region into a mechanised counter offensive to the Cathedral.   This operation opened many opportunities in the many kabalite raiding parties arrayed against the synodian resistance, which the Sardaukars companies exploited in a decisive assault that slaughetered hundreds of xenos before they marched to the next kabalite force. However, this time, the two imperial armies met on the field of battle, slaughtering the xenos forces in a pincer manoeuver that was one of the best coordinated operation of Imperial History.   However, this victory was short-lived as Trueborn Kabalite Raiders and the Whych Kabal assaulted the area, just short of offering reinforcement to their foul breed. Their assault forced the imperial units to retreat in close proximity to the fortified Cathedral, artillery, lasgun and bolter fire causing heavy losses to the xenos that where however able to slow down the Imperial progression.   Intensive attacks and counter-attacks lasted for the best of one month between the very fast xenos armed forces and the heavy units of the Imperial Liberation Army. Vicious street fighting, armoured ambushes and infantry clashes lasted for days without sleep and food, but the Imperial forces are slowly, against innumerable enemy forces, turning the tide in this area.
