Lathear

Lathear is a city located in a sharp bend of the river Bearith to the east of Leas Dimeathris, also known as the Dark Forest. It is the largest and arguably the oldest still populated settlement in the country of Baitha. The oldest part of the city is located in the centre, but the buildings there are not actually old. Instead, it is mostly the layout of the streets that still represents the origins of the city. Some consider it Baitha's capital, but since the country doesn't have a centralized government, this is not actually the case. Still, Lathear is the city in Baitha with the largest politacl network and influence in all of the country.

The city was founded long before the lordships of western Leanor by an ancient leanorian people known as the Baithans. To this day, descendants of the ancient Baithans live in the country named after them. In Lathear, many of the Baithans still live in the city centre where their ancestors founded the city. During its history, Lathear has been sacked many times with external intruders overrunning both the city and the country. Most notable among these instances were the conquests of the Acadeans in the early years of the common era and the Urtheonians in the Great War.

While Baithans were generally known to not fight intruders, at least not openly, a few times resistance groups formed to fight a new conquest. The most recent case of this occured in the beginning of the War of Lions during the conquest by Iohan Angeleos in 1214 CE, when serbaith huntress Zairah Lear, who had survived the genocide in the Dragon's Ridge the previous autumn came to Lathear and founded a group known as the Dragons. They attempted to stop Iohan and his army from sacking the city but failed. After that, the city went back to its old ways of superficial compliance while continuing to practice their own culture secretly.
