From the Ashes - World Ember 2023

From the ashes of a ruined world will eventually rise a group of heroes to put an end to The Arcane Dominion's rule.   Most of the citizens in Ledonia are unware of the truth behind the world they live in, believing the world to be only about 500 years old and the kingdoms to be amongst the first to rise from this land. Little do they know that a Kingdom hidden in the shadows and edges of society turned to dark magic in their greed for power and brought what was once a rich, knowledgable and cultural world to it's knees.   The Arcane Dominion stopped at nothing to ensure they had control of the most powerful magic in the world, the council of sourcers performed a dark ritual allowing them to syphon magic from the world to themselves. In the process, they desimated the natural order but the balance always strives to right itself.   From the ashes of a once destroyed civilisation, survivors, though they don't recall the history, began to rise kingdoms and magic users began to appear again.
This is the premise for the homebrew campaign I'm building. For World Ember, my pledge is to flesh out the history both from before the fall of civilasation and since. I want to focus on the history of the 4 main kingdoms; The Arcane Dominion, Leonhart, Clawhaven Penisula and Crescentia as the main plotline for my campaign will involve the party uncovering the lost history and The Arcane Dominion's existence.   The main focus will be on The Arcane Dominion's history and I also need to figure out what the other Kingoms may have been before they fell and what ruins may be left behind for the party to uncover.   So, my pledge is to write 10,000 words this World Ember to give my world a rich and varied history to drive my campaign forward.

Week 2 Assignment

Scope

Most of the world will be affected but I want to focus in on their history and what led to present day.   Themes Since the world was nearly destroyed, I want their to be a strong thread of discovery throughout the world. I want my party to feel like they're unearthing mysteries and intrigue as they find little hints to the larger history of the world. In order to achieve that, I think I need to have strong sense of the known history so when they encounter an element of long lost history, it stands out as strange.   People Where there's history, there's always notable people, I want to think about who some of the main players were throughout time and they affect the history. Perhaps, it's the lineage of current rulers or maybe it's an inspirational activist that changed how society is.   Scene What are the origins of the world and the natural law, who are the gods and how do they affect history, what religions have begun?

Inspiration

Alot of my inspiration so far has come from fantasy novels I've read in the past.   Another Anvilite shared this amazing world with me:   Pekkola   I really like how they've set up their world to reveal different information depending on what you select. I think I could create a similar type of thing for lost history.   This world is beautifully presented and have used similar themes to what I'm hoping to achieve in my own world:   The Lost Lands
