The Ennoblement

An Ennobled is a civil servant that must always come from common birth. Their entitlement comes from grand deeds, great honor, and often knowing the right person. This part of the Rorancian Aristocracy was formed after the Phoenix Uprising. Prior to that the common people were unable to be apart of government. The Phoenix Accords ended the uprising and instituted the leaders of said uprising would be within the first ranks to be promoted into the Ennoblement. They are viewed with contempt by some and as necessity by others within the upper Aristocracy but by the people they are seen as a check and balance that allows the Aristocracy to co-exist with them. An Ennobled is given the three honorary titles to signify their station. For those within the Judicial branch they are called Justicars. Those within the Legal enforcement branch are called Peacekeepers or Lawbringer. Within the Military they are known as Marshals, Wylderlord and Knights (this is not to be confused with Chevaliers who come from the Aristocracy).   The Judicials

May the Three Fates bring you good fortunes and may you befriend a Justicar.

The Judicial branch of the Ennoblement are responsible for enforcing laws and that taxes are collected. The former is done on an individual basis while the latter is done through the Administration of Revenue Services. The Aristocracy depends upon the Justicars to uphold any laws passed as well as tax regulations. The Justicars have the authority to interpret the law as they see fit to create president. This is allowed as it is the Ennoblement that should understand the heart and condition of the peoples of the Twelve Kingdoms. Several times in history this has led to a conflict of interest where the Justicars have refused to acknowledge a law causing the frustrated Aristocracy to have to repeal the law or just leave it be.   The Legals
Make your peace, because the peacemakers are coming for you.
The Legal branch acts as the police and internal security for the Rorance Kingdoms. They also over see the implementation of the various Welfare outreaches done by the Aristocracy. Peacemakers do not have jurisdictions like Lawbringers do. They cover wide areas and are often called in to cross Kingdom lines. They also act as protection for Justicars. While Lawbringers ensure the welfare of the general population within their jurisdiction, Peacemakers often go after criminal organizations and those within the Aristocracy that are corrupt and are threatening the security of the Kingdoms.   The Military

[quote]Inspire others to dream larger, go farther, reach higher, push harder and do more. That's what it takes to become a Marshal." The military is primarily occupied by those of common descent. To ensure that the military remained strong, and that the desire to join stayed equally as strong the Aristocracy created the Ennobled positions of Grand Marshal, Wylderlords and knights. All must first achieve the rank of knight or knight commander (depending upon the circumstance). From there if they chose to pursue a military career they can become a Grand Marshal or Wylderlord. A Grand Marshal is generals of generals. They are an adviser to the ruling family. A Wylderlord's duty is to oversee any uncivilized territories (such as colonized zones) or territories that have yet to be established. They work to establish order and pave the way for Rorancian society to spread. They are often romanticized as pioneers. Leading armies into the unknown to establish a hope and future for the people. Knight and knight commanders are the most numerous of the ennoblement. They have the normal duties of an officer within the military as well as being able to be called for special assignment. Those assignments can extend outside of normal military jurisdiction. They are mixed with all the other various parts of the Aristocracy, Ennoblement, and even the other factions within the Kingdoms.   The process
Becoming a part of the Ennoblement can be a rather complex task. There are two main ways. The first and most straight forward is to be nominated by the people. Often there are tournaments and grand meetings that allow people to show off their talents and skills. Some are chosen from their community and are nominated to the local royal. During this time a person's background and their deed(s) are scrutinized. There is often more than one person who is being nominated and so public forums are held that discuss their deeds. After a time a vote is cast to determine who will be elected to the nobility. There is no official timing of these election periods and will so vary from place to place. The other way for a person to become apart of the nobility is to have a Royal hear of their endeavors and become their patron. The Rorancian Aristocracy is constantly looking for those worthy of nobility. It has become a way for gaining favor with the people and with their peers. When a person is chosen they go on tour with their Royal. This can be from visiting cities and estates to going to court to meet peers. There have been times when this has resulted in a marriage between a Royal and a noble, forced or otherwise.
