S22. The Seasons Report

General Summary

Seasons...meh.

To everything...turn...turn...turn...turn. There is a season...it's your turn...it's your turn...it's your turn...
A time to every purpose under the heaven.

Well, they beat the Quorum House. I was starting to worry they might not. Maybe I should have helped them some more. They are running out the clock! I finally had to step in and call out to them to get a move on. They don't seem to understand that they don't have a lot of spare time here. But also, looking at this for the long game, though, I can't make it too easy for them, either. It would rob them of their personal victories, wouldn't it? I suppose so.

A time to kill and a time to heal,

But then they went back to the library and, what?, spent the night? Really? Do they not understand what will happen to them if they stay here any longer? There is no day, nor night. There is no dawn! It's "A" time to kill, not we've got "time to kill"...good grief! I can't tell them too much, though, or it will break the immersion. They already know there is something very different about the Necropolis as it is. That is enough. Will they ever discover its true nature? Not if they remain here forever, I think. If they are going to learn it all, they need to get out alive!

A time to be born, and a time to die;

So what now? Well, after removing the two Tieflings, let's add back in someone who can help. Sef will make a fine addition to the team. Wow, did they grill her fast and heavy from the get-go? If they had asked that many questions in the Quorum House they might have solved that one in 30-seconds flat! Poor Sef.
Well, not really. She needs to learn about what is going on, or why would she have any motivation to help them, right? 

A time to cast away stones and a time to gather stones together, A time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted.

So off to the Chamber of Seasons they go to sort out that mess and hopefully get the second candle. They figure out that they have to gather tiles from one place and then arrange them in another. They nearly get the whole thing right, and still avoid getting killed. Well done! Back to the library to get their things and go, and convince the old Keeper to go with them.
And so off we go! But not without troubles, of course! What is life without its challenges? How do we test the strength of our character without adversity?

A time to weep and a time to laugh, A time to mourn and a time to dance, A time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,

Angels begin to attack as the heroes climb the dangerous and open pathway back up to the Temple Above. And this adversity overcomes what the poor Keeper's frail shell can withstand. First the slash of a sword, then later, the fiery furnace of the angel's fireball! The arrival of another unexpected hero isn't quick enough to have prevented that, as welcome as her arrival may have been!
A quick thinking cleric tries to save the old husk of a man with a bit of pious spellcasting, but alas it might be too late for that.
We will miss you, Keeper! At least you got to go out in style, riding for your life on the back of a giant badger!

 

A time to tear down and a time to build,

It is now time. Well almost! One more test to pass at the top, and then...freedom! Exciting times, yes?
