First Orosi Sappers

The First Orosi Sappers were a specialist cohort of miners in service to the Alderni crown, recruited from the alloidial barony of Khut Oros. The unit was formally created in 1160AK, as part of the Hildegardian Military Reforms, and assigned to the Eighth Grand Regiment of Aldernord; prior to this most of the High Houses had employed Orosi engineers within their personal forces. Though nominally under the authority of House Zaal, the First Orosi Sappers enjoyed a close relationship with the Crown Offices as a result of their slightly unusual legal status - the unit was deemed to represent the full military obligation of the alloidial barony of Khut Oros to the Queen, and was thus at the disposal of the Queen to do with as she wished.
The First Orosi Sappers were demobilised in 1343AK following the end of the Long War, when Queen Margaretha IV Bheuren decreed that Khut Oros would be released from its direct military obligations to the Crown, but be obligated to pay an equivalent scutage. Many of the sappers have since found employ within Free Companies, or within various mining guilds.
