Lapis

A tower of ancient and obscure origin rising out of the foothills, Lapis is home to an order of magicians who call themselves the Collegium Transmutione. The college is one of a number of magical schools who claim intellectual descent from the Ordo Arcanorum, the legendary wizard's council which adminstered the Empire of Kataris from the lost tower of Kinik Kataris. Around the tower a sizeable town has grown up over the centuries, providing food and other resources to the magicians of the college in exchange for their protection. The college provides a modicum of education for the children of the town, taking on some of the brightest as apprentices; furthermore, magicians from across the continent come to Lapis to study the arts of alchemy and transmutation, leading to the reputation of the town as a haven for scholars.
The town is ruled by Autokrator Alessandro di Farreris di Lapizula, also known as Alexander Serpens, Archmage of the Collegium Transmutione. The college was awarded the status of a full Autocratia in return for its support during the Second War of Savuran Independence, having defected to the League of Savura in 1338 AK, and many of the mages there have spent time in the Savuran military.
