Saga of Alaric Greenlaw

The draught of dreams did deepen then,
And shining saw he in the south,
A river red from the ravine;
The dread, departed, tattered host,
Who fell to frost and fear and woe,
Did raise their rimed bones to march
From Eisenvala's icy door.
  The Saga of Alaric Greenlaw is believed to have first been committed into writing in or around the 1st century pre-AK, though scholars believe that it was likely circulating as an oral saga for many years - potentially even centuries - prior to this. No full texts are known to survive to the present age.   The Saga concerns the hero known as Alaric the Sentinel, often considered as one of the Wakeful Dead, who dwelled in Volsanger at some undertermined point in the past. The narrative concerns the dread tower of Eisenvala, and a terrible war fought against an army of the dead.   According to the saga Alaric was plagued by dreams of the tower of Eisenvala and came to believe that it represented a great danger to all Volsanger - but alas his warnings were mocked and ignored by the Volsangan chieftains until it was too late; the story tells of an army of the dead arising from the icy wastes surrounding the tower, which marched forth into the Maw, and were only turned back by an alliance between the Bearsark - a confederation of semi-nomadic tribes that dwelled in the tundra, who were mostly considered primitive and superstitious by the Volsangans - and a Volsangan force marshalled under Alaric's banner.
