Thalkaya
Thalkaya is experienced as a becalmed ocean in which the shades of the dead find themselves treading water. Though doing so is tiring, they experience no hunger, nor thirst, nor great discomfort of any kind - though they are utterly alone. One might swim for weeks in any direction, and not glimpse another soul - but whilst there is no shore that one might reach, scattered here and there across the ocean one might find the rotting hulks of ancient ships, floating unmoving upon the becalmed water. On these ghost-ships are found the rulers of the realm, living in a squalid kind of splendour, thoroughly isolated from the world. Few shades ever reach the ships, however, and sooner or later the majority find themselves losing the will to continue to struggle to stay afloat; they drift downwards, not drowning, but falling endlessly into the darkness of the ocean. Those shades that do reach the ships might Descend in a different fashion, and become demonic beings in their own right, though little is spoken of exactly how this might occur.
Thalkaya is ruled by the Guilds of Apathy, who ultimately serve the being known as the King of Rats
