Atwix the Dark -RIP-
Atwix the Dark was believed to have been born in the poor and crowded district of Braeryn in the Underdark drow city of Menzoberranzan to an unknown father and mother. It's possible Atwix's parents may have escaped with their newborn in 1372 DR when a number of male drows began disappearing in Braeryn at about the same time.
Atwix recalled a story told to him of how his adoptive family came to raise him as one of their own. The newborn Atwix was discovered by a soldier while on patrol who found the newborn abandoned and freezing to death along a hunting trail near Bryn Shander, the largest of the Ten Towns of Icewind Dale. As the soldier examined the strange discovery, a drow scout arrived demanding that the soldier turn the newborn drow over to him. The soldier would not hand the newborn over to the drow who then attacked him. During the fight, the drow was severely wounded but managed to escape. Knowing he had a newborn drow, the soldier couldn't take the baby back to Bryn Shander. Instead, the soldier took him to a small cottage nearby where he knew a kind fur trapper and his wife lived but had no children of their own. He left the newborn drow, along with what little money he had on him, to the care of the kind couple. He asked that the baby drow be named Atwix, which in Reghedjic, the language of the Reghedmen, meant "something different than what is assumed"; for he sensed something different, something good, about the newborn drow despite people's perception of the entire drow race.
His adoptive parents were poor but kindly. But being humans, they eventually grew too old to care for the still young Atwix. In time, Atwix was passed on to relatives in various settlements in the Savage Frontier, who in turn kept passing him on to other relatives as the decades rolled on. The original pact made with the soldier from Bryn Shander decades before ensured that Atwix would be kept hidden from those who feared a drow living in their midst. But eventually, the older but still adolescent Atwix found himself living alone in a small cottage at the edge of a forest near the small village of Uluvin. For years, he kept to himself, never venturing out of the woods to avoid being seen by anyone from the village.
Atwix's life would change one winter day when he spotted a small drow raiding party while he was out gathering wood.
The drows were clearly on their way to raid the village. Atwix dropped the bundle of wood he carried and ran as fast as he could to the unsuspecting village to warn them.
When he arrived at the village, he was greeted with fear. Some tried to attack him, but when the drow raiding party arrived, Atwix joined in the fight against the drows using whatever he could use as a weapon.
Thanks to Atwix's help, only a few of the villagers were killed in the attack while most of the drow raiders were either slain or routed.
A visiting half-elf fighter named Brom Boldstag who fought alongside Atwix against the drow thanked Atwix for his help. Brom even offered to train Atwix as a fighter. Atwix was even asked to live in Uluvin. For the first time in his life, Atwix felt accepted.
Years later, Brom offered to take Atwix with him to Baldur's Gate where he was a member of the Flaming Fist, a mercenary company based in the city. With Brom's support, Atwix was accepted into the Flaming Fist. But in time, he found himself at odds with many of its members. He would eventually leave the Flaming Fist to become a sword-for-hire.
In 1492 DR, Atwix the Dark, as he became known, found himself employed by a wealthy and powerful former adventurer turned merchant named Syndra Silvane. With her as his patron, Atwix found his reputation as a skilled fighter had increased despite his drow heritage.

Atwix the Dark is currently with the adventuring company known as The Amazing Bastardos in the lost city of Omu in Chult. They are trying to find means to put an end to the Death Curse, a curse that is plaguing the entire world of Toril and prevents the raising of the dead, even when using resurrection spells, and causing creatures that were previously raised from death to wither and die.
