Bolte Bastardo of Tanistan -RIP-
Bolte Bastardo was born in 1466 DR in the town of Gostlen, a regional trading and market center in the Barony of Tanistan. The farms surrounding Gostlen lay scattered in the Pehrrifall Plains which are known to grow large amounts of millet and barley. Grapes and fruit orchards can also be found in the foothills of The High Peaks and the Omlarandin Mountains.
When Bolte turned twenty-seven, he was approached by his uncle, Girdol Richdreamer. Bolte had worked in several odd jobs in Gostlen and barely earned a living, surviving on his own since both of his parents died years before.
Bolte's uncle was the head of a small but lucrative criminal organization that operated in Gostlen. The Golden Barley Syndicate, as it was known, controlled all manner of operations on the farms and greatly influenced the sale and prices of all millet and barley which passed through Gostlen. Any attempts by the barony to put a stop to The Golden Barley Syndicate always failed since the farmers supported the organization because it ensured fair prices and offered protection from any threats to the farms and farmers.
Girdol offered Bolte a position in the syndicate, promising he could quickly rise through its ranks if he worked hard and proved his loyalty. For the next year, Bolte was given minor assignments but received training in the ways of a Fighter and a Rogue. One day, his uncle approached him with a task he needed completed. Wanting to make a name for himself in the syndicate, Bolte happily agreed to take on the task.
Girdol tasked Bolte with going to Count Lebrim Moldavia's estate, Moldavia Manor, to deliver a message to Count Lebrim's father, Count Fortuno Moldavia. Count Fortuno Moldavia had been pressing the local rulers to put an end to The Golden Barley Syndicate's operation, even going as far as to enlist the aid of the monstrous Shieldbreaker Ogres in the High Peaks which the barony maintained an alliance with. Bolte's job was to convince the Count to cease his effort or face retribution from the syndicate.
When Bolte arrived at Moldavia Manor, he was surprised to find three adventures at the manor. The three adventurers had been sent by Baron Henrik Rennet of Five Spears Hold, to discover why his wife, Baronness Elenore Rennet, had recently failed to return home from a masque thrown by Count Lebrim Moldavia in honor of receiving his father's title.
Not wanting to alert the others to his true motive for being at the manor, Bolte convinced them he was sent by Baron Rennet shortly after the three adventurers left Five Spears Hold.
While searching the manor, the adventurers had learned of the death of Count Lebrim Moldavia's father, Count Fortuno Moldavia, as well as all of their guests, including the Baronness. A blood-red worm the size of a horse had been feasting on the mangled bodies of masqueraders. Count Lebrim Moldavia, however, had managed to escape.
With Count Fortuno Moldavia dead, Bolte considered his job done. But rather than return back to his uncle in Gostlen, he decided to follow the adventurers back to Five Spears Hold where he learned a reward was waiting for the adventurers.
Little did Bolte realize that his decision to go to Five Spears Hold would lead to even greater opportunities for him, including the possibility of someday becoming Royal Consort to the Queen of Chult.
