Papazotl's Tomb
General Summary
12 Marpenoth, The Year of the Duplicitous Courtier (1496 DR)
Tomb of the Nine Gods, City of Omu, Chult
After Mask had touched the treasure on top of the sarcophagus, the adventuring company known as S.M.A.L.L. found themselves in the middle of battle. At both sides of the room stood over a dozen glass cauldrons, each filled with humanoid bones. Suddenly, the bones began to move violently as skeletal warriors emerged from the cauldrons, their bony hands sharp like claws. The room was filled with the eerie clattering of bones as the skeletons stepped forward, eyes glowing with an unnatural bluish light. In the midst of this chaos, the large bronze shield mounted on the wall began to shimmer and glow. The intricate embossing of a Chultan hunter on its surface seemed to come to life. The hunter, now animated, readied for battle, his expression fierce and determined. With a fluid motion, he began to hurl spears out of the shield, each aimed with deadly precision at the adventurers. The spears whizzed through the air, striking Neverwinter and almost killing him while forcing the others to duck and dodge to avoid being struck. Despite destroying several skeletons during the battle, more emerged from the glass cauldrons. The group realized they needed to destroy the cauldrons, or they'd have to fight a seemingly unlimited number of skeletons. Meanwhile, Sein and Zantix did what they could to heal anyone wounded during the battle, especially Neverwinter and Sajen, who were nearly killed fighting. Sajen, the wizard, focused his energy and conjured a Fireball spell. He hurled the fiery orb toward two cauldrons and skeletons nearby, carefully avoiding harming his allies. The fireball exploded on impact, sending shards of glass flying and obliterating the cauldrons. The skeletons emerging from them were blown apart, their bones scattered across the chamber. Soon after, Zantix began to chant an incantation. With a flourish of his hands, he cast a Wall of Fire spell, creating a blazing barrier of flames that roared to life in a line over half of the cauldrons. The intense heat and flames engulfed the cauldrons, causing them to crack and shatter. The bones inside were incinerated, quickly turning to ash. Another spear flew out the shield, hurled by the animated Chultan warrior within. Fortunately, it flew towards the balcony outside the room, narrowly missing Mask, who was standing upside down on the ceiling. With a determined look, Sajen raised his hands and began to weave a spell, his fingers tracing intricate patterns in the air. Arcane energy crackled around his fingers as he chanted the incantation for Magic Missile. Shimmering bolts of pure energy shot forth from his outstretched fingers, unerringly striking the magical shield with the embossed Chultan warrior. The impact caused the shield to tremble violently before shattering into fragments, the warrior's figure dissipating into a cloud of sparks and dust. With only one cauldron left, Dogee, Mask's Blink dog companion, crouched low, his eyes fixed on the large glass cauldron. With a swift, fluid movement, he attacked the cauldron. He struck the cauldron hard. The glass cracked and shattered under the force of his attack, the shards scattering as the bones within spilled out. As the dust settled, the adventurers caught their breath. The bronze shield, with its animated guardian, was destroyed. The room, filled with the remains of shattered cauldrons and defeated skeletons, stood silent. S.M.A.L.L. decided it was time to take a short time resting to recover from the intence battle.
