Passing Through Attaaz Kahakla and Reaching Mbala
General Summary
6 - 17 Elesias, The Year of the Duplicitous Courtier (1496 DR)
Jungle of Chult
For over a tenday, the adventurers ventured deeper into the jungle of Chult. During the trek to Mbala, they stumbled upon an astonishing sight: a large canyon carved out of the earth, unlike any other they'd ever seen. This wondrous chasm was an underwater relic, now exposed, adorned with an array of colorful corals that seemed to glow even in the jungle's dim light. As they gazed around the canyon walls, their breath was caught in awe; within this coral canyon lay the preserved remains of ancient sea creatures from eons past. Immense skeletons of giant sharks and majestic plesiosaurs were scattered throughout, their fossilized forms telling stories of a primordial sea that once claimed this land. The surreal juxtaposition of lush green foliage against the vivid hues of the coral and the awe-inspiring remnants of these ocean giants left everyone with a feeling both humbled and exhilarated by the mysteries that the jungle of Chult held within its heart. Twenty days since leaving the pirate stronghold of Jahaka Anchorage, the group had finally arrived in Mbala. Pushing through the dense jungle, they emerged into a clearing and beheld a breathtaking sight - Mbala. The 1,800-foot-high plateau, stood proudly, its sheer cliffs rising dramatically out of the lush green expanse below. The adventurers stood in awe of the natural wonder before them for a moment. Rather than trying to scale Mbala's sheer cliff face, Neverwinter recommended hiking up the 3-mile trail up to Mbala to get a vantage view of the surrounding jungle. The narrow path cut into the cliff face called out to everyone, inviting each adventurer to embark on the daring climb. Their heart raced with excitement as they began the ascent, hands gripping the rocky edges for support. Each step brought a sense of accomplishment and adventure, as they rose above the jungle, witnessing the world from a new perspective. In time, the natural path turned into carved steps and emerged onto the plateau's top. The group stood beneath a once grand but now decrepit wooden gateway. The gates that sealed the entrance were rotted; only their rusted iron hinges and reinforcing bands remained. In their place were heaps of human skulls, picked clean of all flesh and bleached white by the sun. Before they could further take on the wonders of Mbala, a sudden chorus of piercing screeches filled the air as four massive shadows swooped down from above. "Pteranodons!", Neverwinter called out to the group. With wingspans stretching nearly 30 feet, the creatures descended upon the adventurers, their sharp beaks and talons glinting in the late afternoon sunlight. The adventurers sprang into action, weapons drawn and spells readied. The two closest pteranodons flew through a swirling cloud of shimmering daggers, a spell Sajen had cast in the air in front of them. The collision with the sharp blades left trails of crimson drops in their wake. The once-graceful flight turned into a chaotic struggle as the wounded creatures fought to regain control amidst the onslaught of slicing steel. The pteranodons proved to be formidable opponents. They darted and weaved with surprising agility, making it difficult for the adventurers to land a clean strike. The adventurers coordinated their efforts, their teamwork born from previous battles fought together. The spellcasters launched a barrage of spells at the pteranodons. Sein expertly slid under a passing pteranodon driving his longsword into the creature's exposed underbelly. Brick engaged in a fierce duel with the largest of the creatures, his warhammer smashing into the creature. But the battle was far from one-sided. The pteranodons were resilient and relentless. One adventurer was knocked to the ground, narrowly escaping a swooping attack. Another was nearly caught in the grip of a pteranodon's talons but managed to break free before it could fly off with its prey. The battle raged on, each side inflicting and enduring wounds. The adventurers' determination and skill proved to be their greatest assets, as they gradually wore down the pteranodons. The remaining pteranodons were soon brought down in a flurry of arrows, spells, and well-aimed strikes. Breathing heavily, the adventurers stood amidst two of the fallen beasts, which did not plunge to the ground nearly 2,000 feet below. The adventures immediately regrouped, their eyes turning back to their original quest. The mysteries of Mbala awaited them. But as they looked upon the majestic yet fearsome forms of the fallen pteranodons, they couldn't help but feel a sense of awe for the ancient creatures they had battled and bested on that fateful day.
