The Sewn Sisters
General Summary
13 Marpenoth, The Year of the Duplicitous Courtier (1496 DR)
Tomb of the Nine Gods, City of Omu, Chult
Following a clue found on a map Thargrin had, the adventurers climed down a pit at the bottom of the grand staircase. The group emerged into a vaulted hall covered in green smoke. Barely visible through the haze were three rocking chairs, several work benches heaped with haberdashery, a spinning wheel, and a rusty iron cage containing a prisoner. Galleries stood ten feet above the floor to either side of the room. Three tiny figures waddle toward the group through the smoky haze: a straw doll with rusty pins sticking into its body, a faceless child molded from clay, and a stuffed monkey with the lower body of a unicycle. "You need to run away! The Sewn Sisters will be back any moment now!" The straw doll said. The adventurers asked the tiny figures who the Sewn Sisters were. They learned that sisters were a coven of night hags whose duty it was to care for the creature beyond the large skeleton gate in the room's southern side. The group was surprised to see the prisoner inside the cage was none other than Sajen, their friend who had recently been disintigrated by Belchorzh, the beholder. However, the figure who looked a lot like Sajen had some minute differences to him. The color of his eyes were different. His skintone lighter, and his hair straighter. The figure said he knew the members of S.M.A.L.L., but not Thargrin. The tiny figures said the version of Sajen the group was talking to was a simulacrum, a clone created by the Sewn Sisters using samples of blood and hair provided to them by Nanny Pu'pu who offered to create special potions for everyone. The tiny figures spoke of how the Sewn Sisters had also created clones of the other members of S.M.A.L.L. However, those clones had died due to their extreme malformity a flaw that occured during their creation. Only Sajen had survived, with some minor differences from the original Sajen. Suddenly, three figures started to materialize in the room. The tiny figures hid behind members of the group, who picked them up and placed them in bakcpacks or pouches for safety. The air was thick with tension as the two groups faced off. Baggy Nanna, the eldest and most powerful of the Sisters, led the charge. She wore a squirming leather sack sewn over her head. Her gnarled fingers twitched with dark magic. Widow Groat, a hag with tarnished gold coins covering her eyes and ants nesting in her skull, followed closely behind. Peggy Deadbells, flitted around the edges of the group, her laughter a chilling sound that echoed through the chamber. She wore a string of chattering children's teeth and thumped about on a heavy peg leg. When she cackled laughter, giddy with excitement at the battle about to start, yellow gas billowed out of her nose and ears. Sein, the paladin of S.M.A.L.L., took the lead, his blade glinting in the dim light. He clashed with Widow Groat. Meanwhile, Mask, the rogue, darted around the Sisters, trying to find an opening. Zantix, the druid, hurled powerful spells at the coven, while the coven countered with claws and spells. Thargrin, the fighter, fought with his glaive weakeaning the Sisters with each strike. The battle raged on, the chamber filled with the sounds of clashing steel and the crackling of magic. However, in the end, it was only Baggy Nanna who had survived the adventurers' attacks. Widow Groat and Peggy Deadbells lay defeated on the floor, their bodies twisted and contorted. Baggy Nanna was spare after she surrendered to the group. In return for sparing her life, she provided the group with information regarding the room beyond the skeleton gate and of Acererak, the lich who had created the Tomb of Annihilation to house the legendary artifact, the Soulmonger. S.M.A.L.L. decided to rest in the room to recover and ready themselves for their battle with Acererak.
