Tomb of the Nine Gods - Day 3: Crystal Eyeballs & Polished Floor
12 Nightal, The Year of Twelve Warnings (1494 DR)
Day 62 of 79
Tomb of the Nine Gods, Omu, Jungles of Chult
The remaining four members of the adventuring group known as the Amazing Bastardos have found all ten crystal marbles and the door to use the marbles on. Each of the 1-inch crystal marble varied in color and hue, and each was about the size of an eyeball. For the past day, the adventurers explored the third level of the Tomb of the Nine Gods. Two dungeon levels above and two below were connected by a grand staircase surrounded by the stone balcony. The group, still seeking the Soulmonger, considered taking the stairs all the way to the lowest level of the dungeon. However, when Alice prayed to Tempus to aid in determining which way led to the location of the Soulmonger, she received a message that suggested the group needed to completely explore the first three levels before proceeding to the lower two. Why or what it was they needed to continue further, the message from Tempus wasn't clear. Nevertheless, Alice passed on her god's divine message. So after finding all ten crystal 'eyeballs', the Amazing Bastardos now find themselves before a large door with a round mirror set into its surface. Ten circular indentations, each about an inch across, surrounded the mirror. As Bolte placed each crystal eyeball they found, each lights up as it was clicked into place. With each eye that was inserted, Bolte's reflection in the mirror became progressively unhealthier—losing weight, hair, and teeth as he slowly came to resemble an undead. Undeterred, Bolte placed all crystals into the mirror. When all ten eyes were in place, they disappeared and the door ground upward. Beyond the entrance was a domed, candlelit room fifty feet high. But it was the floor that caught everyone's attention. The polished marble floor was so perfectly reflective that it created the illusion of standing at the entrance to a sphere. Nine alcoves filled with glittering treasure were visible along the walls. In the middle of the chamber, a large spherical object hovered under a black silk drape twenty feet above the floor. Bolte carefully examined the marble floor just beyond the doorframe. He discovered that the floor was so well-polished that it was slick. His fingers slid off the floor as if it was covered in a very thin layer of oil, although there was none Bolte could detect. Bolte told everyone that it will clearly be difficult to remain standing or even walk upon the polished floor. Unsure of how to investigate the strange room, the group considered their options.
