Session 11: Discoveries
General Summary
During the trip to the Cackling Chasm, Sargent James had an idea to get Atalanta back into the good graces of Speaker Danneth by volunteering at the new establishment, the Cauldron’s Kitchen. Over the course of a few days while volunteering Atalanta noticed a white snowy owl that stayed close by and seemed to be watching her. She eventually discovered the owner; an older white haired woman wearing an eyepatch. After a note was delivered by this owl containing an address, she and the rest of the party (after they returned) discovered the bodies of Freddy Rich and Lucas Trout. Using the Investigation Talc that was also delivered by the owl, the party learned that they were murdered by the remaining duergar from the Easthaven Ferry and Amelia’s necklace taken.
After finishing up several odds and ends in town, including reconvening with Captain Arlaggath, the party agreed to head south and make the trek to the duergar fortress known as Sunblight. When you awoke the morning of your departure, Sargent James shared a breakfast with Amelia, fulfilling his promise of taking her to “dinner”. Shortly after Jame’s departure Captain Arlaggath and the town speaker himself graced the White Lady Inn with their presence.
The party had shared their plans of traveling to Sunblight with the Captain the previous day and Atalanta’s efforts were well received by Speaker Danneth. Therefore they decided to do what they could to help with the journey and provided you with traveling provisions and a gold badge of the Speakers Crest. This token is a demonstration of your good deeds that you have performed on behalf of Easthaven and is considered a very high honor!
Easthaven's Crest
Having traveled south to the Cackling Chasm just a few days before, the first leg of the journey proved to be familiar and uneventful; other than the observation of large elk herds that had recently passed through. After two days' travel you made your way to the Treeback Forrest at foot of the Spine of the World. Passing through the party was ambushed by the nomadic people of the Elk Tribe whom Morthos had spent a lot of time with.
Recognizing Morthos, you were all welcomed into their camp and met with King Jarund Elkhardt. You shared with him the news of his last remaining heir, Jarund Twiceborn and your reason for passing through. Appreciative of the news you shared and in support of your current cause, he gifted you with a torch that would help you find the chwinga; spirits of the forest that could help safely guide you through the dangers of the forest. Setting out after just a brief stay, you eventually came upon a chwinga, but the interaction was short-lived after you were attacked by a treant.
