Session 43: More Problems

General Summary

After narrowing surviving Iymrith's escape from the Maelstrom with the Korolonor Scepter in hand, you nursed your wounds and reconvened with Imperator Uthor, Princess Serissa's uncle.   You learned that Iymrith had come to the Maelstrom shortly before the death of Queen Neri. After some discussion, you learned that the timeline of your meeting with her at the Eye of Annam, lines up with her brief absence from the Maelstrom.   Mirrian and Nym have been placed under house arrest and will be questioned about their involvement with Iymrith, the death of their mother, and disappearance of their father.   The only way to save Princess Serissa, who currently sits upon the Wyrmskull Throne in a Globe of Invulnerability is by retrieving the Korolnor Scepter. In lieu of discovering that King Hekaton may very well still be alive, this is the most important task at hand. If you save King Hekaton, he may be able to help you retrieve the Scepter from the ancient blue dragon, Iymrith.   After Xyden performed the anti-scrying ritual, the Veil of Alternative Realities, you learned the following from Imperator Uthor:
  • Grugaran is a descendant of Obadai, the origin to the stone giant race and direct son of Annam himself. Obadai was tasked, along with the rest of his brothers to protect relics of ancient power known as Titan Stones. The lust for power however, is much more powerful than even the bloodline of Annam. Obadai turned on his fellow brethren and murdered thousands in the pursuit of taking the stones for himself. His revolution however was stopped and he was destroyed, but not before he was able to impart a piece of his soul within his crown, thus his spirit and bloodline remained.
  • Grugaran, the great great grandson of Obadai was an old and frail stone giant when he recovered the artifact known as the Crown of Obadai from human tomb robbers. He and his young lover had a plan to turn themselves into immortal vessels of power by using the ancient stone giant artifact, so that they could rule over a reborn Nedeheim. Unfortunately, when Grugaran first attempted to use it, the crown killed his young lover, but granted him the curse he so deeply desired. He then became known as the King of Death, or The Dodkong
  • After that, the fate of Grugaran is nothing more than a fable, or tale to scare young giant kin. It is unknown about the validity or whereabouts of The Dodkong to this day.
  • You shared what you currently knew about the Dodkong with Uthor - including his mission to recover the stones. Upon disclosing that, he let you know that King Hekaton possess a Titan Stone, the Claw of the Wrym Rune. However he dares not to hand it over without the King's consent.
You rested that evening, and the next morning Uthor used the meditation cave to teleport you to Yartar in pursuit of more information pertaining to the wooden coin which is identical to the one Ivellios stole from Delsaphine. Upon your arrival, you quickly learned that the war front you originally saw down south nearly 3 months ago (by Waterdeep) has made it's way this far north to Yartar. The city's defenses hold, but the legions of the attacking horde seem endless. All things considered, Yartar still seems to be in good shape but you are unsure how long this will last.   Upon entering the overly crowded city, you see that this has become a safe haven for people to evacuate to. After some searching, you made your way to the "new "Villa of the Harpers, and spoke with Harper Kolbaz and learned the following:
  • Delsaphine has put a bounty on your head, 5,000 gp each and 1,000 gp for Diamonddust - last Kolbaz heard she was in Silverymoon
  • The faction known as The Harper's are not in league with the Cult of the Dragon, however they do sell them information. After some convincing, you paid off Harper Kolbaz for his silence and in exchange he granted teleportation access to Ivellios - with the agreement that you would always replace the hallucinatory terrain spell after using it
  • The wooden coin is a gambling chip used at the Golden Goose Casino aboard the Grand Dame, which currently sits docked in Yartar upon the Dessarin River
  • Kolbaz's information pertaining to "The Society" is limited, however what he does know is the the owner of the casino and the Grand Dame is a man by the name of Khaspere Drylund. His casino is a means of obtaining wealth and power so that he can overthrow the current leader of Yartar, Waterbaron Ruthiol
With that information, you set out to buy some swanky clothes, purchased a cheap-ass hotel room, got dressed to the nines, and made your way to the docks as the day came to an end. The shining lights aboard the Grand Dame grew in the distance as you approached; a motley crew band of roughneck adventures dress up for a night out on the Dessarin River.
