Session 73: Unnatural Disasters

1pm Uktar/November 6

General Summary

With mass panic incited, the Ragtags erupted into action. The sinkhole opened in dark chamber that was about thirty feet below the level of the ground. It looks larger than the hole and extends into darkness on all sides. A heap of loose earth is piled in the middle. The children who first fell in are sitting on the mound of earth, coughing in the dust and sobbing with fright. “My boy, my boy!” a worried parent shouts, peeping over the edge. “Somebody do something!”   Never hesitating for a moment to help save the innocent people of Red Larch, Eldred atop Vena rushed down into the sinkhole that had opened up in the town square with Bolivar not far behind having activated his spectral wings.   More townsfolk hurried up from all sides, staying clear of the edge. Among them are a few town elders, who pull people away from the edge and order the others to stay back. “Leave it to us!” says one of the elders. “We will tend to this matter! The children won’t be harmed by being down there a little while, but no one must go down there. Keep back!”   Visibly anxious to keep anyone from discovering that the sinkhole leads to passages, the town elders made statements such as, “This isn’t to be discussed in front of strangers!” and “The Delvers must not be angered!” and “The stones must not be moved!”   The rest of the Ragtags gathered around, many tending to individuals whom were injured. Ivellios stayed close to the resident priest, Brother Bondon as there were still questions that needed answering.

During the hight of all the commotion, Ivellios heard a feint calm voice inside his head, "Your business lies elsewhere." Out of the corner of his eye, he watched as Brother Bondon's expression turned to panic and his eyes turn to the back of his head as his body went limp. Hearing the same voice now chanting, Ivellios turned around. Before losing consciousness he saw was a tall slender hooded figure wearing a platinum mask and wielding an impressive warpick.   Slowly the town began to calm and ultimately few were seriously injured; among which a pale grey tiefling whom Bolivar had noticed that had been keeping a very keen eye on the party since their arrival to Red Larch. Nonetheless the Ragtags were too preoccupied to deal with such maters. Ivellios was pulled aside by a kind townsfolk and rendered aid until the party could tend to him. When they reconvened, Vel told the party what had happened; it was then that they realized Brother Bondon was missing.
With no one in immediate danger, the Ragtags ventured down in to the sinkhole to and discovered a passageway that led into a larger man made tunnel. Traveling through the party's primary objective was to find Brother Bondon and figure out who was behind all this. A fairly simple tunnel system, they easily found the whereabout of the dwarf priest but not before setting off a series of complex and powerful traps; rock spikes that jutted out from the cavern walls, impaling anything in it's wake.   After managing to save the unconscious priest the traveled deeper into the tunnel system to find several cultists lying in wait with a trap; among the cultist, a young male halfling whom proved to be a formidable foe. The party was surprised when the teenager hurled a cloud of dust at the that erupted into large stones, possessing a similar effect to a fireball. The child died amongst the rest of the cultist in the heat of the moment but feeling a sense of guilt Ivellios used Revivify to bright him back to life. They were able the convince the kid to leave the chambers but not before heeding them to beware of the "Prophet of Earth".
