Personal history
Born while Vortigern was still king, Cerdic had to flee Britain with his mother once Vortigern fell.
In the continent, Cerdic honed his skills as a warrior, and many respected him on being the grandson of Hengest.
After battling the Danes in many a skirmish, Cerdic finally claimed kingship among the Saxons and the Gewisse, Cerdic began raising an army to retake the Isles of his birth. He wed Aethelhild, daughter of the King of Angles, and began building the last great Saxon migration, years after his grandfather, Ælle and Æskwine had made the journey to Britain.
He planned for years, aiming for the correct time to strike, all while gathering more men to his banner through his deeds in battle with the Franks, being one of the few who could stand against the might of Clovis the Frank. In 493, word came that the Pendragon was ill, and he began to ready. His Loyalists, eager to see the return of Vortigern's son, gathered their forces and began a conspiracy to topple Uther. He gave the order to release Octa and Eosa, funding them with steel won from the Franks. Once Uther was defeated, it would be easy to carve out Southern Logres. However, Uther prevailed at St. Albans, and the Loyalists took matters into their own hands, with the Butler of Uther spilling large amounts of poison into the victory wine.
His mood darkened by this act, Cerdic began his conquest. Five ships brought him and his sons to British shores, and Hantonne fell with little difficulty to the invasion with many a noble quickly bending the knee to avoid a grim fate. Four years have passed, and Cerdic is now pressured from the conservative Kent, the bloodthirsty Essex and the ambitious Sussex. He might have made progress, but the lack of further submission have stalled his conquest, now as British contenders have appeared as well.
