The Duchy of Ostwick and the Great Polis of Aldwain
The Great Polis of Aldwain is the capital of Ostwick, a nation shadowed in its history both literarily and physically. It was founded by Oratian Elivier Aldwain, First of His Name, in 625 AH as a fortress, a last bastion from which the citizens of Ostwick might contend with and fight back the hordes of monsters swarming their nations sprawling and stifling wilderness.
The geography and city planning of the polis itself emanates out from the original fortress in the center - the Lunar Bastion, which was named so for Odilae: the Prime Goddess of the Moon and Dreams, for providing them their only light in the very darkest of nights.
Odilae herself for this very reason receives widespread and devout reverence in Ostwick. This is in notable contrast to Neruin, who is oft spoken of in quiet and private contempt in reference to the legends that She is responsible for the blight of nightmare creatures that have plagued Ostwick since antiquity.
As of the beginning of the 26th century, Ostwick's current Sovereign Duke was Haulenvald vos Aldwain V. In the months preceding the Void Resurgence of that same year, Haulenvald was present for the Ithilhad Landsmeet in favor of Alestrann retaining its current borders. He cited that "no other nation has instilled so much hope in so very many disparate peoples, across our entire world - here on Astraea's beautiful surface, in the distant Skylands, and even in the hearts of our reclusive cousins beneath the ground. To see it wiped off the map would be an unconscionable tragedy that would forever and irrevocably murder the potential of our world."
