WorldEmber Homework week 2

Now, is the second week of World Ember Homework, and I have been instructed to give a mini-meta. If you read my week 1 homework, you'll know that I am using WorldEmber to get off my lazy ass and finally start writing the stories that were intended to fill my world. The first story in my world is the opening to the War of the Eternals part of Legends of Eternity, featuring the "young" brimbarian wizard Sojern Orias and his struggles against his uncle, who is secretly a necromancer, and secretly engaged in a pact with a dark being that calls itself an Eternal. This being is where he gained his necromancy. This is my first WorldEmber, and I thrive on criticism, so ANY feedback is more than welcome.

Scope

The Motivation Behind Writing Legends of Eternity: War of the Eternals, Book 1: Pride

Every story has events that lead up to that story. This story is far from the climax of the entire series, but it is the beginning of the massive chain of the events. I am building this story to lay a foundation for the rest.

The Goal of the Project

I am using this event to create a functioning first draft for the story of the young Sojern Orias. Once this first draft is complete, I can gain feedback, and hopefully build up from there.

What is my Unique Selling Point for This Novel?

Ultimately, there is not much that truly sets this story apart from others. This story is mostly a way to look at my worldbuilding through the eyes of the character, as opposed to the eyes of someone from Earth.

Theme

Genre

This is a fantasy story. Magic lives in all things, and is used only by those with a unique, and thorough understanding of this magic. Dark forces stir, and watch as their world crawls with the mortal infestation.

Reader Experience

A deep personal struggle grips at young Sojern's mind as he must do the impossible, and stop his corrupted uncle from unknowingly causing a tragedy that would effect this young world in ways that could cause harm beyond just his own people.

Recurring Themes

Magic fills the air, and fights our battles. Many different fantastical races of people fill the land, and build their nations. Other creatures roam around these nations. Some peaceful, some less so.

Focus

This world is very young. The races that inhabit it are older than the world itself. They came here through a rift between worlds. Sojern's uncle, named Eitr was there. Magic is a tool, a weapon, and a shield. It is used to create, and destroy. You need only know how to shape it into your desires. Only one war has plagued the land. That war formed a branch of draconic military called Horoth's Siegebreakers, mounted heavy shock cavalry. These draconin warriors mount the giant reptilians called the Zaerta, and don armor adorned with great metal, and cloth dragon wings.

Drama

Sojern has just found out that his only family, a brimbarian wizard named Eitr is holding a dark secret. Now, he fights to survive an ongoing hunt for him carried out by Eitr's undead minions. During his journey through Eternity, he forges alliances, and sees things he never knew existed. He finds new ways to bend Eternity's magic to his will, and uses such methods to combat the looming threat. As his knowledge grows, so too does his power.

Scene

The Laws of Legends of Eternity: War of the Eternals

For the natural, and magical laws of the world called Eternity, (At least to ones important to THIS story) I must direct you to the following links. Arcane Magic... Use of Arcane Magic... Divine Magic... Eternals' Magic System...

Cosmology

Eternity came to be as a project by the Eternals. They made Eternity after their creator Deos banished them for corrupting his creation. They made their own world free of the mortals that replaced them. Now, those same mortals walk their world, and carry their corruption with them.

Geography

As Eternity was made by mistic forces, it has an artistic feel to it. Four landmasses, three around the edge in a spiral, one in the center. Mountains to the east, forests to the west, meadows in the central land, and plains to the south.

Initial Active Setting

All this is only slightly larger than Earth's Europe.

People

Species, and Cultures

The refugees consisted of six different races. There were the munren, brimbarians, halflings, dwarves, orcs, and draconin. The munren are the most numerous people, though not the greatest at anything, they are not the worst at anything either. Brimbarians are fewest, and most intelligent. They live a life of luxury, art, and music. Halflings are diplomatic minded. Dwarves work the theosite forges to the east. Orcs live tribal lives, and are left alone. Draconin are a strong, and proud race of warriors, built to serve. Many live to protect their own.

Inspiration

At the risk of stating the obvious, a large portion of all my inspiration comes from J. R. R. Tolkien's Middle Earth. Then again, most modern fantasy does. This accounts for imagery, story, and some basic foundational worldbuilding. That being said, I also pull inspiration from real-world history. One such example is Horoth's Siegebreakers. Their base inspiration was the Winged Hussars. Often times though, I prefer to let my readers connect their own dots.

Conclusion

There you have it. A basic background meta for the first story within Legends of Eternity: War of the Eternals. Thank you for reading this far, and please consider reading the story as I write it throughout WorldEmber 2023. In the meantime, I'm sure you also have some homework to do. I can't wait to see what you write!
