Weapons of Legacy

General Summary

Planting 24 (Moonday), CY 576   White Plume Mountain, 5 miles from the town of Yellowreach, Shield Lands
Riikan Dack, representing three wealthy collectors of rare art objects, has hired the adventurers to recover three stolen weapons, Wave, Whelm, and Blackrazor. As a reward, he offered to grant them whatever they desired if it was within his power to do so.   At the Inn Between, in the city of Greyhawk, Riikan showed the adventurers a boastful note left by the thief—supposedly an ancient wizard named Keraptis.

Riikan told the group that his sources had pinpointed their destination (the “feathered mound” named in the note) as a volcanic peak called White Plume Mountain, which lies near the Rift Canyon in the Shield Lands.       Weeks later, the adventurers found themselves scaling the mountain's south slope.   Hired guides from the nearby town of Yellowreach, so named for the sulfurous deposits along its banks, led them to an entry tunnel known as the Wizard’s Mouth. In Yellowreach, the adventurers were able to resupply themselves and stable their mounts.   While in town, they heard about an entourage of nobles led by Sir Bluto Sans Pite from Radigast, who came to Yellowreach not long before the adventurers arrived. The group recognized the names of the wanted nobles, all of whom faced a whole slew of charges, including murder, extortion, escape from prison, dereliction of duty, assault upon a priest of Pelor, drunkenness, and more. Sir Bluto Sans Pite and those with him have been accused of slaughtering many travelers and locals alike and tossing their bodies into nearby rivers, prompting the city of Greyhawk to post a reward of 10,000 gold nobles for the return of Sir Pite and his entourage to Greyhawk, dead or alive.       The tunnel led into the rock and emerged in a cave that seemed to breathe, exhaling a large cloud of steam and slowly inhaling again, like a man breathing on a cold day.   Inside, the cavern floor was covered with muck—a byproduct of the condensation dripping from the walls and ceiling. Hidden beneath this mud, near the back of the cavern, they eventually discovered a simple trapdoor set with a rusty iron ring.   Once opened, the group saw an opening below.   A square vertical shaft beckoned them.
