Cathayi (cuh-thay-ee)

The Cathayi

Cathayi live on a peninsula in the west coast of Tivaralan. They generally have black hair and brown eyes, high cheekbones, and oval eyes.

History

Origins

When the Jade Emperor in Heaven, Yang-Di, presented the world to his consort Guanyin, she shed a tear of joy.  It fell to the earth and formed Teardrop Lake, from whence the Cathayi People emerged.

Enslavement

During the Reign of the Tivari, the Cathayi were enslaved. They toiled the fields, providing rice to their conquerors.  Yanyan, the First Dragon Singer, helped in mankind's struggle to free themselves from the Tivari.

First Empire

After the War of Ancient Gods, the Cathayi civilization underwent much of the same unification as other civilizations, with warlords consolidating their power and trying to seize neighboring lands. The entire peninsula was united just once, for a period of four centuries under the Yu Dynasty.
The Yu Dynasty faced the growing might of the Arkothi Empire in the East and the Ayuri Empire to the South, and both tried to absorb Yu territory by buying off regional lords and the Hundred Years of War was marked by a deterioration of the Yu’s central authority; and the Hellstorm and Long Winter led to complete societal chaos.

The Wang Dynasty

Receiving the Mandate of Heaven from the gods, General Wang Xinchang sought to bring peace to the remains of the Yu Dynasty.  He first landed at Haikou, quickly conquering the island with the neverCathay. He was also assisted by an elf wizard Xu.
In Haikou, the ranks of his armies swelled and he soon landed at Ximen on the mainland and continued to sweep through the countryside by either absorbing friendly lords and defeating hostile ones.
His concept of the Castle town and diversified economies helped Hua prosper. He instituted a standardized language, Huayu.
