Dikden
Dikden was a village in Domthe, built in the Thetbron Mountains on the shores of Lake Doshing until a landslide in 980 buried the village.
Dikden primarily saw income from the tourism industry. It had proximity to the lake as well as some of the most popular hiking stretches in the Thetbrons, but it also had the advantage of a tunnel carved straight through the mountains for easy access to the western coast of Leland. It was a popular destination for those from Domthe as well as those along the western coast.
In 979, petrageans studying in the Thetbron Mountains detected abnormal energy fluctuations. These fluctuations indicated instability of the rock in the area where Dikden was located. The warning from the petrageans went unacted upon--other instances of this sort of thing had resulted in very minor earthquakes before the energy stabilized.
In the summer of 980, the height of tourism season, the energy fluctuations triggered more than just an earthquake. The earthquake triggered the tunnel through the mountains to collapse, crushing eight people and trapping twelve more. The ensuing landslide buried the northern two-thirds of the village. The tower of the local Zeschascist temple was the only thing that remained visible from the rubble, having been swept out over what had previously been Dikden Cove. Through the study of the energy flows in the rubble, a total of seventy-nine bodies have been identified but not recovered.
The area remains unstable, but is closely monitored from a research station located near the rubble. With the exception of a few families who refused to leave the area, the only people living there are researchers. Dikden remains a tourist site, though for more morbid reasons than in its heyday. A path leading to the exposed tower was carved through the rubble where a plaque stands in memorial of the lives lost during the tragedy. Legends of the treasure buried with the wealthy who vacationed in Dikden draw curios treasure-hunters, though it is illegal to disturb the site.
