Mossore
A mossore is a small mammal found in the dark Moshkyan forest on Havenvern Island. It is regarded as the laziest creature in Moshkyan as it spends most hours of the day sleeping and moves slowly upon waking to dig for insects around the base of the tree or boulder it has been sleeping near. In order to protect itself from predators, mossores utilize a two pronged defense strategy. By growing moss on its back, the mossore is able to disguise itself as a rock while sleeping among rocks or lodged at the base of a tree. In the event that the mossore is attacked or accidentally stumbled upon, a layer of poisonous quills lies just below the layer of moss on its back. While not deadly to humans, the poison of these quills causes an intense burning sensation in the affected area followed by temporary deafness. It is very easy to accidentally stumble upon the creature, so the common sense precaution of wearing proper footwear if entering Moshkyan is recommended to avoid the painful effects of the poison. While to exact make up of the moss on the back of a mossore varies by indivudal, Sovoss, as it is commonly called, leeches poison out of the mossore's quills, giving it unique properties that are considered useful by compisceanes. For this reason mossores are raised in captivity in order to eliminate the dangers associated with finding mossores in the wild. There are some compisceanes that claim farmed mossores produce sovoss of lower quality and less rich in the energies that make the moss valuable.
